The muggy heat of the last couple of days is a sign of things to come. This weekend, the UK will be hotter than Tenerife. If you can find a bargain way to stay comfortable throughout the summer, it’s a good idea to jump on it now before prices rise.
Aldi has two new cooling models you should check out. You can’t buy them online, but they’ll be in shops from 5 June . (But if you want to buy a fan online, right now, we’ve got plenty of recommended options in our round-up of the best fans we’ve tested.)
The first Aldi model is its Ambiano Design Fan , which you can pick up in store for just £39.99. It has many of the advantages of a Dyson, as well as the brand’s sleek look, but at a tiny fraction of the price.
Some of its features would make it ideal for a kid’s bedroom. The first is its bladeless design, which means it’s safe to leave in a room with a little one – or even around inquisitive pets.

It also has an LED light ring with seven LED colour options, so it can be used as a night light. And with an operating volume of just 56 decibels, it won’t disturb sleep.
It has three speed settings and three modes: normal, natural (a random setting, which mimics a breeze) and sleep. And it oscillates to circulate air further, although you can choose to fix it in one direction. You can control it from the on-device digital touchpad or via the included remote.
Aldi also has an air conditioner alternative, the Ambiano Air Cooler , a returning appliance that previously sold out and costs just £39.99. We expect the same thing to happen again this year, so be quick if you want one.

Aldi
We’ve tested a model like this and found it very effective: the Princess Smart Air Cooler , which, at over £130, is more than three times the price of the Aldi model.
Air Coolers are much more effective than fans as they actually lower the temperature of the air, rather than just circulating it, using evaporative cooling technology. All you need to do is fill the reservoir with cold water or ice (depending on the model).
Aldi’s model has a 5.5-litre tank and four ice boxes. It has three speed levels, a timer that can run for up to 12 hours, and comes with a remote control.
One note of caution is that a model like this one, which features a tank of water sitting in an electrical appliance, should only be used under supervision and not within reach of pets or children. This is not one to put in a child’s bedroom.
