Right now, the robot vacuum cleaner industry is in full swing. The major manufacturers are rolling out this year’s innovations – models we saw at the autumn and winter tech conventions, not least at CES in Las Vegas in January.
The biggest headlines are about the flagship models, the ones that are first out with the latest innovations – gripper arms , better obstacle handling and the ability to climb over higher thresholds . These are features that should entice technology enthusiasts to upgrade their robot at home.

But being at the cutting edge comes at a cost. If you are looking for the most advanced models from established manufacturers, you have to be prepared to empty your wallet.
The Dreame L10s Plus takes up less space than many other models with an auto-empty station.

Fortunately, most manufacturers also offer models in lower price ranges, with slightly simpler specifications – but which still do the job and keep the floor clean. A good example is the Dreame L10s Plus.
Dreame L10s Plus – what do you get?
When Dreame adds “Plus” to the model name, it means that the robot vacuum cleaner comes with a base station that automatically empties the onboard dust container. However, it lacks features like automatic water filling and emptying, which the Ultra models have. In other words, as long as you only want to vacuum, it will take care of itself, but if you also want to mop, you’ll have to do a little extra work.
To mop, you need to refill the robot’s little onboard water tank, clean the mops manually and hang them to dry after use. Ultra models, on the other hand, are self-maintaining and handle both vacuuming and mopping fully automatically – including washing and drying the mops and handling clean and dirty water.
The water tank must be refilled regularly.

One advantage of the L10s Plus not having a water tank in the base station is that the station takes up significantly less space than the corresponding Ultra models .
Easy installation and smooth navigation
It’s easy to get started. Dreame’s app is one of the best on the market. Once you’ve downloaded it and created an account, setting up the robot is fast. It performs a quick home survey in just a few minutes, and once you’ve divided the rooms and added any no-go zones, it’s ready to start cleaning.
The customisation options in the app are more limited than those of the more advanced models. Most settings relate to how the robot should handle carpets and whether it should avoid them completely or vacuum them extra thoroughly. The mops can be raised automatically, but on thicker carpets this isn’t enough.
The laser-based navigation system works well. The robot avoids running into furniture and moves methodically. However, the obstacle detection is a bit of a mixed bag. Larger obstacles, such as socks and shoes, are rounded neatly, but smaller objects, such as charging cables and lighters, are completely ignored and run over without hesitation.
Cleaning performance – good suction power but weak on edges
With suction power of 7000 Pa, the Dreame L10s Plus does a good job. Cat litter, rice grains and dust are effectively sucked up, even from carpets. However, some hair does get caught in the rubber brush. Double brushes, such as those on the Dreame X50 Ultra Complete , would have been preferable here.
Obstacle detection is lame – a charging cable is swallowed whole.

The robot’s weakness lies in corners and along edges. Like many cheaper models, it lacks an extending side brush, which makes it less effective in tight spaces.
The mop function is of the simpler kind. While it has dual rotating mops, like more expensive models, they don’t extend for better edge cleaning. They also require a lot of maintenance. They need to be saturated in water and cleaned both before and after use, and dried after cleaning. Likewise, you have to manually refill water in the small container under the lid of the robot.
