The wait is officially over – along with Timothée Chalamet, we can return to the distant, war-torn planet known as Dune.

The sci-fi tale that centres on the desert planet Arrakis and its messiah, Paul Atreides, is one of the greatest blockbusters in recent years. Dune boasted a star-packed cast, spectacular costume design and stunning cinematography.

As the first reviews report, the second part of the story is even more impressive. Find out when the Dune: Part Two will be released, what happens in the plot, and who’s starring.

Dune: Part Two release date

The film is currently available at the cinemas.

Setting a release date for the second part of Dune caused Warner Bros. a lot of trouble. Initially, the film was set to debut in November 2023. However, after the SAG-AFTRA strikes, the release date was pushed back to 2024. Shortly after, it was brought forward a little.

Dune: Part Two finally appeared in cinemas on Friday, 1 March 2024.

Dune: Part Two plot

Dune covers the events from the first half of Frank Herbert’s first Dune novel. The film ended when Paul and Lady Jessica found the Fremen and headed to Stilgar’s home. In the Fremen camp, Paul will have to adapt to new customs and prove his worth and strength as the Muad’Dib – the messiah of the planet Arrakis.

In Dune part 2, we’ll see more of Paul’s prophetic visions, which will concern his future and the uprising against the Emperor.

In an interview with Empire , Denis Villeneuve said:

It’s like a chess game. Some new characters will be introduced in the second part, and a decision I made very early on was that this first part would be more about Paul Atreides and the Bene Gesserit, and his experience of being in contact for the first time with a different culture… Second part, there will be much more Harkonnen stuff.

The official synopsis reads:

This follow-up film will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavours to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.
