After four years of waiting, we can finally get a glimpse of what has happened to the teenagers from Euphoria. The first trailer for season 3 is out, teasing Rue fighting for her life in Mexico, Lexi pursuing a career in Hollywood, and Cassie… well, Cassie’s just making content.

Euphoria is one of HBO’s most popular and best-rated series, but the development of season 3 has had a bumpy path. First, the production was delayed by the actors’ and screenwriters’ strikes, and then it turned out that Sam Levinson needed more time to work on the script than initially anticipated. The popularity of the stars also became a problem, as they found it increasingly difficult to find time to appear in the HBO production.

After a wild season 2 finale, fans are eagerly anticipating the new episodes of Euphoria. We’ve gathered all the news about this outstanding HBO teen drama.

When will the Euphoria season 3 be released?

According to the latest information provided by HBO, Euphoria will return on Sunday, 12 April 2026.

HBO originally announced that Euphoria season 3 would premiere on HBO Max in 2025.

However, it was later announced that the script for the new episodes wasn’t ready, and there was no confirmed completion date, so the cast had been permitted to work on other projects.

What is the plot of Euphoria season 3?

Spoilers for Euphoria season 2 below.

The second season of Euphoria was full of drama and ended on a typically sour note.

Cassie and Nate’s romance led to a tumultuous end to Cassie’s friendship with Maddy. Nate himself reported his father, Cal, to the police, and Cal was arrested for possession of explicit images of a juvenile.

The highlight of the season was a school play prepared by Lexi, inspired by the lives of her and her classmates. However, the hilarious performance had unforeseen consequences. A furious Nate broke up with Cassie, who then climbed onto the stage and was assaulted by a vengeful Maddy.

Unfortunately, Fez, who became friends with Lexi during the season, didn’t make it to the show. Just as he was leaving, the dealer and his brother Ashtray got into a shoot-out with the police. As a result, Fez was wounded, and Ash was killed.

The only positive element of the season’s ending was Rue’s reconciliation with Jules and Elliot after her drug crisis.

If you hope to find out in season 3 what happened right after the messy school play, you may be surprised – there will be a time jump between seasons by as much as 5 years into the future. It means that the next time we see Rue and her schoolmates, they’ll be young adults.

As revealed by Sam Levinson to Variety , in season 3 Rue will be in Mexico, where she’s trying to find money to pay off her debt to Laurie after taking a suitcase of drugs worth $13,000 from her. Laurie warned Rue that if she didn’t pay the money back, she would be sex trafficked. Rue’s mother got rid of the drugs when she found out that her daughter had relapsed into addiction, leaving Rue in serious trouble.

One of the most colourful storylines in season 2 was Cassie’s romance with Nate, Maddy’s ex-boyfriend. According to Levinson, in season 3:

Cassie is living in the suburbs with Nate, they’re engaged, and she’s very addicted to social media and envious of what appears to be the big lives that all of her high school classmates are living at this point in time. I feel strongly this is our best season yet… I will say that Cassie and Nate do in fact get married. I’m confirming it. And I promise that it will be an unforgettable night.

There had been rumours that Cassie would join OnlyFans , and the first trailer for season 3 seems to confirm this speculation:

As for Nate, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly , Jacob Elordi revealed that in season 3, his character wants just to survive, and that will require “the end of hubris” and “the end of arrogance”.

Adult life seems to be going slightly better for Maddy, Lexi and Jules.

Again, according to Sam Levinson:

Jules is in art school, very nervous about having a career as a painter and trying to avoid responsibility at all costs. Maddy is working in Hollywood at a talent agency for a manager, she’s obviously got her own side hustles going. And Lexi [Apatow] is an assistant to a showrunner played by Sharon Stone, who is just absolutely delightful and a true icon.

Who is starring in Euphoria season 3?

HBO has confirmed the return of the following actors and actresses:

  • Zendaya – Rue
  • Hunter Schafer – Jules
  • Eric Dane – Cal
  • Jacob Elordi – Nate
  • Sydney Sweeney – Cassie
  • Alexa Demie – Maddy
  • Maude Apatow – Lexi

Sadly, Angus Cloud won’t return in Euphoria season 3 to play fan-favourite Fezco. In July 2023, the actor passed away due to a drug overdose. It’s not yet clear how the show creators are going to explain Fez’s absence in the upcoming season.

Nor are we likely to see Javon Walton as Ashtray. Fez’s bizarre brother was most likely killed during the Scarface-like shoot-out with the police.

In 2022, Barbie Ferreira , who starred as Kat Hernandez, announced that she was leaving the series.

Storm Reid , who played Gia, won’t appear in the third season. As the actress said in her interview for Rotten Tomatoes, Rue’s younger sister isn’t a part of the season 3 script.

Sharon Stone , an icon known for her roles in Casino and Basic Instinct, has joined the cast of season 3. She will portray Lexi’s showrunner boss.

Natasha Lyonne , best-known from Orange Is the New Black, Russian Doll and Poker Face also has joined the cast for the season. Trisha Paytas , an American media personality, will also appear in Euphoria season 3. Other additions to the cast include Danielle Deadwyler (The Woman in the Yard, I Saw the TV Glow) and Eli Roth (Inglourious Basterds, Idol).
