Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 3 plot

The Disney show is an adaptation of a series of YA novels by Rick Riordan. Season 1 was based on the first volume, titled The Lightning Thief. while season 2 adapted the second book, The Sea of Monsters.

Season 3 will be based on The Titan’s Curse , the third novel in Rick Riordan’s book series. It’s slightly different from the first two volumes – it’s darker, and it takes place in winter, not summer. The story kicks off with Percy, Annabeth and Thalia going to West Hall boarding school to pick up siblings Bianca and Nico di Angelo. However, the trip doesn’t go entirely as the demigods expected – they encounter a dangerous opponent, Dr. Thorn.

Season 2 ended with a post-credit scene that teases the third instalment of the show:

The Percy Jackson book series consists of six volumes:

  • The Lightning Thief
  • The Sea of Monsters
  • The Titan’s Curse
  • The Battle of the Labyrinth
  • The Last Olympian

It means there’s enough material for several seasons, providing Disney renews the show again.

In season 3, Kate McKinnon will portray Aphrodite , the Greek goddess of love and beauty. The comedian and actress is best known for her appearances on Saturday Night Live, as well as her performances in Ghostbusters and Barbie.

What’s interesting is that in the Percy Jackson books, Aphrodite is a shape-shifting goddess who changes her appearance based on what a person thinks is beautiful. For now, it’s unclear if this unusual feature will be kept in the show – we don’t know whether other actresses have been cast as Aphrodite.

Dafne Keen , known from His Dark Materials and Logan, has been cast as Artemis, the Greek goddess of the moon and the hunt. The official description reads ( via The Hollywood Reporter ):

Artemis prefers the freedom of the outdoors to the politics and formality of Olympus. Her immortal hunters are her constant companions, and she has little contact with mortals, making her a bit out of touch with modern human culture.

Saara Chaudry , the voice actress from The Mysterious Benedict Society and The Breadwinner, will portray Zoë Nightshade, an immortal hunter and Artemis’ lieutenant. According to the official description (via The Hollywood Reporter):

[Zoë] has been at Artemis’ side for more than 2,000 years. She is a strong warrior and sometimes overly serious in ways that amuse the demigods, but she is also a crucial quest member, willing to strive and sacrifice for the good of all.

Olive Abercrombie will star as demigod Bianca di Angelo , while Levi Chrisopulos will portray her younger brother, demigod Nico di Angelo .

Holt McCallany has been cast as Atlas, the Titan general of Kronos. David Costabile will portray Dr. Thorn, the new villain. Jesse L. Martin is Frederick Chase, Annabeth’s father.
