What DLCs will be available?

Ubisoft announced its DLC plans for For Honor in early February, and the good news is that most of the best stuff will be available for free.

Six new heroes will be added to the game’s existing 12 after launch, with two premiering at the start of each competitive season. Anyone can unlock them by paying the in-game currency ‘Steel’, but season pass holders will be able to access them without spending any Steel, and get them a week early too. There’ll also be other free maps, modes, and gear release, though again, season pass owners get early access.

There are also a few goodies that are entirely exclusive to those with a DLC season pass, though they’re mostly cosmetic: six elite outfits for the new Heroes, an exclusive sunbeam effect for emotes, three exclusive emblem outlines, three scavenger crates that unlock additional gear, and a 30-Day Champion Status offering an XP boost.

Gameplay

For Honor is a medieval warfare game in which you play as a Viking, Samurai or Knight. Ubisoft has given each of these factions its own unique abilities and prospect. The Vikings (also called ‘Warborne’) are fiery and aggressive; the Samurais (also called ‘Chosen’) value combat mystery; and the Knights (also called ‘Legions’) focus on controlled thrust and parry.

Ubisoft has tried something new in this game, whereby players use the controller’s analogue sticks rather than its buttons to control movements and actions in battle. This demands greater accuracy in gameplay in order for a player to be successful.

Game director Jason Vandenberghe said: “The goal is to put you on a battlefield, sword in hand, and give you a new way to fight.” Vandenberghe wants to do what Halo did with first-person shooters for sword-combat games.

So far Ubisoft has not said much about the single player mode, but it has shown a demo of the four-vs-four multiplayer mode, in which the player’s objective was to take control over three territories. This earns the team points; should you die in battle you are able to respawn provided that your team has 1,000 points. If you have fewer than 1,000 points and low health you can return to your territory to revive your health. During a battle, successful kills unlock new skills and abilities for the player to use.
