What are the GoPro Hero 6 specs?

Here’s a summary of the specifications:

  • Recording up to 4K at 60fps
  • Faster slo-mo: 1080p at 240fps
  • Custom-designed GoPro GP1 processor
  • Waterproof to 10m without a case
  • Touch zoom

The big update, then, is the ability to record 4K at 60 frames per second. That could be enough – along with the waterproof design – for owners of older cameras to upgrade.

Plenty of enthusiasts prefer to shoot at more than 30fps, and that meant a Hero 4 Black or Silver was just as good as a Hero 5 Black since the 5 is limited to 30fps when recording in 4K.

The new camera still shoots in 12Mp for photos – in JPG or RAW formats – with GoPro’s Wide Dynamic Range mode. However, it will supposedly offer better low light performance than the Hero 5 Black.

A lot of the new features and performance are down to that new GP1 processor. It’s a new custom chip created specifically for GoPro by a company called Socionext .

GoPro is also touting the best stabilisation to date, although it remains the digital variety rather than optical.

The Hero 6 Black also uses 5GHz Wi-Fi to transfer footage to your smartphone three times faster, according to GoPro. Other features include GPS, a 2in LCD touchscreen and voice controls.

QuikStories are enabled which is a feature that automatic videos from your footage on the appe. More interesting is the addition of Touch Zoom. This does what you’re expecting, allowing users to zoom simply by touching the Hero 6’s screen.
