The biggest sporting event is now well underway.

The 2024 Olympics are being held in Paris , and have already featured many standout moments. These include the triumphant return of US gymnast Simone Biles on the Olympic stage, Keely Hodgkinson’s incredible gold in the 400 metres and a 100m men’s race decided by five-hundredths of a second.

The closing ceremony will take place on Sunday 11 August 2024, but there are a few exciting events before then. On Friday 9 August, the 4×100 metre relays will kick off from around 6pm BST.

You might want to catch all this action in glorious 4K – and, unlike the Euros, you can. However, there are limitations you need to know about.

Here’s how to watch the Paris 2024 Olympics in the UK and US. Note that How To Geek states that the events aren’t filmed in 4K, but rather upscaled by distributors.

Paris 2024 Olympics in 4K in the UK

There’s only one way to watch the Olympic Games in UHD 4K in the UK, and that’s by watching Eurosport’s linear channels: Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2.

These are available for pay-TV customers via satellite, which are those with packages on Sky, Virgin Media and EE TV/BT TV. You’ll also need a TV and set-top box with 4K support.

Cordbusters has confirmed that the BBC will not be broadcasting the Olympics in 4K .

We also contacted Warner and were told that while Discovery+ will have HDR streams for the Games, the streaming platform is instead focusing on having sufficient bandwidth to deliver up to 54 concurrent streams. This is likely the same reason that BBC iPlayer isn’t delivering 4K content.

This therefore means that if you get Eurosport via Discovery+ over the internet, via the likes of Sky Stream or EE TV, you won’t be able to watch in 4K.

Paris 2024 Olympics in 4K in the US

In the US, the only way to watch UHD 4K broadcasts of the Paris Olympics is via USA Network. Certain events will also include support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Audio. As in the UK, you’ll also need a 4K-supported TV and a 4K-supported set-top box.

Comcast Xfinity cable customers have access to this through their package but How To Geek has confirmed that users should also be able to watch UHD games on this channel via the Xfinity Stream app, Altice, Cox, DirecTV/DirecTV Stream, Dish, Fubo, Sling TV, Verizon and YouTube TV.

According to Forbes , UHD 4K coverage will be available from 24 July, from 8am-12pm ET every day that the Games are on. Sadly, this will be paused for the opening ceremony.

Unfortunately, the flexible streaming platform Peacock won’t support 4K coverage, according to Deadline .
