  • Honor MagicPad 3 Pro looks very similar to Ultra
  • Honor Watch 5 Pro provides sharp eSIM smartwatch
  • China only at present

The Honor MagicPad 3 Pro tablet and the Watch 5 Pro smartwatch have been announced in China.

As well as announcing its new Honor Magic 8 flagship smartphone range, Honor has announced new tablet and smartwatch options.

The MagicPad 3 Pro slips in just above the Honor MagicPad 3 that we reviewed back in August. It’s fronted by the same 13.3-inch 3200 x 2136 LCD with the same elevated 165Hz refresh rate.

However, it’s powered by a much meatier Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, which is a full two generations ahead of the non-Pro’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

This is backed by either 12GB or 16GB of RAM, and 256GB or 512GB of internal storage.

There’s a 12,450 mAh battery powering things along, just like the regular Honor MagicPad 3, and the same 66W charging support.

The camera set-up looks identical, too. So that’s a 13Mp main camera, a 2Mp macro, and a 9Mp selfie camera.

Dimensions of 293.88 x 201.38 x 5.79mm and 595g are, unsurprisingly, identical. Indeed, the whole design looks very similar to its non-Pro brother.

Here’s us comparing the Pro to its brother, but it’s more interesting as a potential cut-price iPad Air alternative. It’s got the bigger display, a similar design, and potentially comparable performance.

Pricing, meanwhile, starts from ¥3,799, which translates to around £400. Naturally that’ll be quite a big more expensive when it hits the West, but we’d still expect it to come in around the iPad Air’s £599 asking price.

Honor Watch 5 Pro

The Honor Watch 5 Pro, meanwhile, slots in below the Honor Watch 5 Ultra that we reviewed earlier in the year – and it might just undercut the Apple Watch 11 by an even bigger margin.

It features a 1.5-inch circular AMOLED screen with a 466 x 466 resolution, housed in a 46.3 x 46.3 x 11.3mm 51.1g body with a more ‘classic’ (i.e. non-octagonal) watch design. It’s rated to a water depth of 5ATM, and it’s IP68/IP69 certified.

Honor Watch 5 Pro 1 - 3

Honor

The Watch 5 Pro runs on a 515mAh battery, with a claimed three days of battery life in regular use.

There’s eSIM support for phone-free calling, and it’s got extended satellite tracking support (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, and QZSS).

Honor Watch 5 Pro 3 - 4

Honor

Besides the usual suite of sensors you also get a heart rate monitor, a barometric pressure sensor, an ECG sensor, and even a geomagnetic sensor.

It’s priced at ¥ 1,699 for the eSIM model, which translates to around £177. Again, it’ll almost certainly cost more when it travels West, but almost certainly a fair amount less than the £369 Apple Watch 11.

We’ll be keeping an eye out for global launches of both the Honor Watch 5 Pro and the Honor MagicPad 3 Pro.
