Huawei has sought to reassure potential Mate XT Ultimate foldable owners who might be balking at the high cost of ownership with a generous display replacement offer.
The Huawei Mate XT Ultimate is the most interesting thing to happen to foldables in years. It is also prohibitively expensive, with an asking price of (ouch) €3,499 .
However, the company has sought to ease any early adopter doubts with a fresh offer.
Huawei’s big Mate XT Ultimate screen offer
As GSMArena reports, Huawei is offering a free Mate XT Ultimate screen replacement for the first year.
That’s a generous offer straight out of the gate, but it applies regardless of the cause of the damage.
Of course, the wording of this suggests that it’ll only be good for a single replacement.
It also suggests that you’ll be fending for yourself once that first year is up, although a person who splashes out €3,500 on a phone will presumably be the kind of person who upgrades frequently.

Why is this offer even necessary?
Besides the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate’s prohibitive asking price, the very nature of its innovative tri-fold display promises to add to those initial costs.
Around the time of the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate’s initial China unveiling, the company revealed that it would cost the user 7,999 yuan (about £875) for a new tri-fold screen.
We suspect that the Western cost for that component will be in excess of £1,000, which would make the price of a new screen more than that of an iPhone 16 Pro .
If that doesn’t make you nervous enough, consider the unique design of the Mate XT Ultra’s tri-fold display. While regular full-sized foldables like the Huawei Mate X6 inherently protect the soft internal display when closed, the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate leaves a third of the screen open to the elements.
That includes a portion of the screen that essentially serves as one of the phone’s edges, which leaves it even more exposed to potential nicks and scrapes. The case helps to mitigate this, but it’s not ideal.
Our reviewer has spent about a day with the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate so far, and has reported experiencing an uneasy feeling around the phone’s conspicuousness, and in particular that exposed screen-hinge. Hopefully this guarantee of a free screen replacement will help assuage some of those early fears.
