A Court of Thorns and Roses (or ACOTAR, as it’s best known) by Sarah J. Maas is another viral title on BookTok. It follows Feyre Archeron, a young huntress who becomes involved with the faerie realm after unknowingly murdering one. When she’s brought to the land of Prythian to atone for her actions, she meets the High Lord Tamlin, and her life changes forever.
There are five books in the ACOTAR series, with a sixth on the way. Here’s the latest news about a screen adaptation of the books.
Will there be an ACOTAR TV series?
The possibility of a TV series for A Court of Thorns and Roses isn’t looking promising, with Hulu cancelling the adaptation in February 2025 according to Variety (it would have likely aired on Disney+ in the UK and abroad if it went ahead).

The project was in development for nearly four years and underwent delays due to the strikes in Hollywood. It was reportedly already shelved last year according to TVLine , though Variety heard that the show was still in development, if not actively.
The showrunner was going to be Ronald D. Moore , who has worked on Outlander and Battlestar Galactica
Will another studio pick up the ACOTAR TV series?
Not all hope is lost though, as Variety states that author Maas is shopping around for a new studio and platform to take on the ACOTAR TV series.
However, even if another company bids on it, we may not hear any news for at least a few months. According to the article above, Disney has the rights until late Summer 2025 – so, presumably August of this year.
Reports about Margot Robbie being involved came to light after the actress and producer was seen dining with Maas, who she now considers a good friend.
Robbie confessed to Hapers Bazaar that she is a huge fan of the books, and when asked about getting involved with an adaptation, she replied: “I’ll see what I can do.”
Of course, Robbie has many other projects in the pipeline with her production company LuckyChap Entertainment, including adaptations of Wuthering Heights, Monopoly and The Sims.
Unless Disney makes a U-turn, we almost certainly know that it won’t be airing on Hulu or Disney+.
Were any cast members announced for the ACOTAR TV series?
No – though one actress very boldly put herself forward to be involved. Brec Bassinger of Stargirl told TVLine that she’d emailed her team to get even just a line in the show.
Other than that, no other cast members were associated with the project. Even if it gets a new home, it may be a while before we hear anything else.
