Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen has been warmly received by viewers. In both the US and the UK, the series reached number one in Netflix’s charts.
The Gentlemen is a sequel to Ritchie’s film of the same name. The story of a thriving marijuana empire starred Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Hugh Grant and Colin Farrell, among others. Although they didn’t return for the Netflix series, there was plenty more to enjoy, including clever criminals, sarcastic humour and surprising plot twists.
But will there be a season 2 of this gangster tale? Or is The Gentlemen just a one-time Ritchie adventure with Netflix? We have gathered all the information we know.
Is The Gentlemen returning for season 2?
At the time of writing, Netflix hasn’t renewed the show for the second season.
However, according to Deadline , platform authorities see The Gentlemen as a long-term project, and Guy Ritchie already has an idea for a follow-up.
As Marc Helwig, one of the series executive producers, said to Deadline:
We have started that process. There are some writers we’ve talked to, certainly lots of discussion with Guy about what he might want to do in a second season, what things to focus on.
Helwig also mentioned that the series could lead to another film with a similar theme, and all productions could create a whole gangster universe.

The Gentlemen season 2 plot
As mentioned, The Gentlemen is a spin-off series for Guy Ritchie’s 2020 movie. It tells a brand-new story with entirely different characters, but its core is the same: a tale about a resilient drug empire and a bunch of witty criminals. However, this time, members of the British aristocracy had a larger role.
In the first season, Eddie Horniman inherited the title of Duke of Halstead and an estate with a basement full of surprises that diverted his life onto a new track.
Trying to get out of the gangster business, Eddie plunged even deeper into the drug underworld and, what’s more, discovered that he had a natural talent for criminal activity. Together with the cunning and ruthless Suzie Glass, he brought the marijuana business under control, eliminating competitors and forming unusual alliances.
In the second season, Eddie and Suzie will continue their operation. They will surely have to deal with new enemies and unpredictable Freddy, Eddie’s brother, who also has a taste for a criminal career.
There is also a strong possibility that Gospel John will decide to take revenge on the Halstead family after all, and Stanley Johnston won’t abandon his plans to take over their business.
