Expert’s Rating

Pros

  • High build quality and thoughtful design
  • Powerful suction, especially in max mode
  • Long battery life (and a spare, if you buy the Pro model)
  • HEPA filter

Cons

  • Can feel clumsy and difficult to manoeuvre
  • Pricey

Our Verdict

£699/$929 for a stick vacuum cleaner may seem daunting, but at the same time, it should be noted that the Triflex HX2 offers an extraordinary sense of quality and performs really well on most surfaces. It’s easy to maintain, and the flexible design makes it easy to use. However, like its predecessor, it can be somewhat clumsy and difficult to manoeuvre, especially when switching between the different configurations.

We’ve tested two Miele stick vacuum cleaners. Last year, we took a look at the Duoflex HX1 , but it was way back in 2020 that we tried out the Triflex HX1 . It’s a stylish, flexible and impressively powerful model, but also heavy, with fairly basic accessories. Now, just over four years later, we’re tackling its successor: the Triflex HX2.

To see all our top recommendations, browse our round-ups of the best vacuum cleaners , the best wet and dry vacuums , the best robot vacuums and the best cheap robot vacuums . Everything we recommend has been tested and reviewed by one of the team.

There are three HX2 models available. We tested the flagship Pro model , which comes with all the accessories you see below. The Cat & Dog model (for which you’ll see pricing at the top of this review) has everything but the additional battery. Plus, instead of the soft roller for hard flooring, it has an electro compact brush for pet hair.

The standard model (which is white) doesn’t have an additional battery, or an extra cleaning tool, and its main floor head doesn’t have headlights.

Design and Build

Let’s rip the band-aid off right away – this isn’t a cheap affair.

Miele Triflex HX2 Pro - 3

So, what makes this beast different from its predecessor? Not much, actually. The design is largely the same, with flexible, useful configurability once again taking centre stage.

Thanks to the modular design with four main sections – motorised floor head, power unit, handle and extension wand – you can easily switch between having the main unit mounted high or low, which offers several advantages.

When positioned high, you get better access under and on top of furniture. The low position makes it easier to navigate large floor areas, and in this position the vacuum cleaner is also stands by itself. Like most stick vacuums, it can also be configured as a handheld vacuum cleaner. Smart.

With the main unit positioned low, the Triflex HX2 Pro stands by itself. Convenient!

Performance and Features

The package includes three smaller nozzles. It also has three interchangeable brush rollers adapted for different floor types, intended for the main floor head – which incidentally has LED lighting to more easily reveal dirt on the floor. It’s nowhere near as effective as Dyson’s angled green laser, but significantly better than floor heads with no lighting at all.

Battery life is excellent. The HX2 Pro comes with two batteries, so you can easily switch to a fully charged one if the first one runs out. A fully charged battery gives a maximum runtime of over an hour in Min mode, if you attach a small cleaning nozzle. Using the HX2 in the highest power mode, Max, with the floor head attached, will drain the battery in about 15 minutes.

The floor head’s built-in light gives a better view of dust and dirt

Charging is done by plugging the power cord directly into the battery or by using the supplied wall holder, or in the separate battery charging station. This means that (if you buy the Pro) you always have access to a fully charged battery, which in practice doubles the operating time.

Should you buy the Triflex HX2?

Like its predecessor, the Triflex HX2 impresses in terms of performance. Miele does not provide official figures for suction power, but the dust is sucked up with considerable force – especially in Max mode. It also operates relatively quietly, about five decibels lower than its predecessor. Filtration is also more efficient, as the Triflex HX2 is now equipped with a HEPA filter.
