The Motorola Moto G36 has been spotted on an official national certification website, revealing some intriguing specs for this new budget phone .

Motorola’s new phone has appeared on TENAA , China’s telecommunications certification authority, which means it’s as good as officially confirmed.

The phone, going under the model number of Motorola XT2533-4 but likely to be the successor to the Motorola Moto G35 (pictured), packs a similar 6.72-inch FHD+ LCD around front. This was arguably the key upgrade in last year’s model, so we’re not sad to see it replicated here.

Especially not when the Moto G36 has such a notable improvement elsewhere. The TENAA listing reveals that the phone’s battery will have a rated capacity of 6,790mAh, which should mean that it packs a capacity of 7,000mAh.

That’s a stand-out spec for any phone, let alone one that’s expected to cost considerably less than £200.

Motorola Moto G36 charging, design, camera and performance

33W wired charging will probably mean that this huge battery takes its sweet time getting from empty to full, but again, we’re talking about a very cheap phone here.

Bigger battery means bigger body, at least without the budget to use advanced cell technology. The Moto G36 is looking to be a chunky customer, with dimensions of 166.3 x 76.5 x 8.7mm and a weight of 210g.

There’ll be a 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultra-wide, which sounds a lot like the Moto G35. There seems to have been an upgrade on the selfie front, however, with a 32MP front camera suggesting progression from the previous model’s 16MP unit.

While the precise chip isn’t specified, news of a faster 2.4GHz clock speed for the processor suggests at least a minor upgrade from the Moto G35’s 2.2GHz Unisoc T760 chip.

This is good news, as sluggish performance was my main criticism of the Motorola Moto G35 when I reviewed it last October.

Indeed, I’m hoping that Motorola can wring a lot more out of its cheap phone formula with the Moto G36, because the preceding model didn’t exactly set my world alight.

In addition to a performance bump, I’d hope to see improvements to the camera quality – which would require some algorithmic tinkering, judging from the similar hardware. I’d also hope to see a more extensive software update promise, as the Moto G35 only promised one major Android update.
