While I’d love to see a Google Pixel Watch A-series next year, another smartwatch request is for Motorola to get back into the wearable game.

I’m a long-time fan of Motorola devices, with the brand offering countless great value Moto G phones and more recently some of the best flip phones on the market in the Razr series .

But something occurred to me when I opened a drawer in my office and spotted the 2016 Motorola Moto 360 Sport … the brand hasn’t launched a wearable in years. Well, not in the UK anyway whereas the US has devices like the Moto Watch 120 as well as a couple of square-style models.

It got me pondering why and perhaps the answer, combined with being bought by Lenovo, is that those devices didn’t sell well enough.

Update: It appears my wish came true and there will be a Moto 360 (2025) .

But from my point of view, it’s a real shame to have what was one of the first innovators in the smartwatch game completely missing for Brits. The Moto smartwatches weren’t perfect, far from it with issues like the famous ‘flat tyre’ bezel of the Moto 360 and Moto 360 2 .

However, there was a lot to like and with Motorola’s regular successes in the smartphone world, I’d really like to see it offer fans something to put on their wrist as well as in their pocket.

We did see the firm’s Adaptive display concept back at MWC 2024 but it’s, well, a concept and though it can be worn on the wrist, it’s really a phone in from factor and I described it as “mind-boggling”.

Ecosystems are important to customers, even though Android is, for the most part, one big happy sandbox of compatible devices. And we are here to champion choice for consumers.

And talking of consumer choice, the second-generation Moto 360 offered Moto Maker support where you could customise the device including the case colour and even different bezels. That would really give potential buyers a reason to switch from rivals.

It doesn’t seem likely to happen, sadly, but I hope someone with the authority at Motorola is listening.
