OnePlus has quickly proven itself to be one of the best smartwatch makers in the business, despite an awful start, and it’s now fixed our biggest complaint about the most recent model, the Watch 3.

To date, and it’s a common issue we have with other smartwatch brands as well, the OnePlus Watch has always been available in just one size. We didn’t think the firm would address this until the Watch 4, but a new, smaller model of the Watch 3 has been confirmed to launch on 8 July .

OnePlus calls it “a smaller iteration that packs the same features”, adding that it’s “perfect for smaller wrists.” Celina Shi, the Chief Marketing Officer at OnePlus Europe, said the company had been “inspired by feedback from our community for a smaller smartwatch”.

The news comes as a surprise, but a welcome one, and means you can now buy a OnePlus Watch 3 in a 43mm size rather than the larger 46mm. The new display will be 1.32 inches as opposed to 1.5 inches on the 46mm model. It’ll also weigh just 37.8g, down from 49.7g.

It’s not as small as the 41mm Google Pixel Watch 3 , but it’s still more compact if you have dainty wrists. Interestingly, Google did the opposite with the Pixel Watch 3 series and added a larger size, which both fans and media had been requesting.

However, the smaller Pixel Watch 3 has a battery capacity that’s reduced by 113mAh, resulting in a clear worsening of battery life. It’s unclear if there’ll be changes to the 613mAh cell on the 46mm OnePlus Watch 3, which delivers some of the best battery life on any Wear OS smartwatch.

We do know that the new 43mm edition is available in just a Silver Steel colour. But we’re waiting for more details such as the release date, price (we assume it’s cheaper than the 46mm) and any other key specs, but those will come later.

This is a sort of pre-announcement as OnePlus will fully unveil the Watch 3 in 43mm on 8 July at its Summer Launch Event alongside the OnePlus Nord 5 and other devices . Here’s a full list:

  • OnePlus Nord 5
  • OnePlus Nord CE5
  • OnePlus Buds 4
  • OnePlus Watch 3 43mm
  • OnePlus Pad Lite

Pop-up events, including one in London on 10 July at Protein Studios in Shoreditch, will be a chance for fans to get hands-on with the new devices as well as “exclusive discounts not available anywhere else, and the chance to win devices from across the full OnePlus Ecosystem.”
