While sister company Oppo has a few foldables under its belt, OnePlus waited until 2023 for its first attempt.
The OnePlus Open was a compelling debut, combining premium hardware with some genuinely impressive software features. But there’s still room for improvement in a few key areas – including the price.
Judging by the rumours, the upcoming Open 2 is shaping up to be one of the most formidable challengers to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold , with rumours swirling about a massive battery and the cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Elite processor.
So when can we expect and what exactly will the OnePlus Open 2 offer? Here’s everything we know at this stage.
When will the OnePlus Open 2 be released?
OnePlus’ sister company, Oppo, has confirmed that it’ll be launching the Find N5 foldable in China on 20 February .
Why is that relevant? Well, that device is expected to be rebranded as the OnePlus Open 2 for global markets.
It’s unclear when the device will arrive in the UK and US, though. In a now-deleted Weibo post , leaker Digital Chat Station previously said that OnePlus plans to launch the Open 2 in “early 2025”, though that may have just been referring to the Chinese launch.
Instead, leaker Sanju Choudhary on X indicates it may only arrive in the second half of 2025 and likely no earlier than July.

For context, the original OnePlus Open launched globally in October 2023.
How much will the OnePlus Open 2 cost?
While we don’t have any concrete information on the price of the OnePlus Open 2 at the moment, we expect it to remain competitive.

The One Plus Open costs £1,599/$1,699, making it more affordable than key rivals in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 (from £1,799/$1,899) and the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold (from £1,749/$1,799).
Hopefully, OnePlus will make the Open 2 even more affordable but that might not be the case, especially if there are significant upgrades.
What specs and features will the OnePlus Open 2 have?
The Open 2 is expected to be extremely similar to the Oppo Find N5, if not identical. Therefore, we can assume any leaks about that device also apply to the Open 2.
Design
A teaser image shared by Pete Lau highlights the device’s standout thinness. According to Oppo’s Weibo announcement, the Find N5 will launch as the thinnest flagship foldable in the market.
The current thinnest foldable, the Honor Magic V3 , measures 4.35mm in thickness. To claim the title, the Find N5 will need to be slimmer, with rumours suggesting a thickness in the 3.5–4mm range.
Additionally, Oppo’s product manager Zhou Yibao revealed that the Find N5 will incorporate a titanium alloy hinge, enhancing its durability. Digital Chat Station also claims the same.

Recent photos shared by Oppo’s product manager highlight the Find N5’s impressively thin design.
In its unfolded state, the phone is as slim as two stacked CNY1 coins, measuring approximately 3.7mm.
This makes it only the second phone in the world to break the 4mm thickness barrier, following the Mate XT Ultimate tri-fold.
The phone also appeared in a leaked hands-on photo, positioned alongside the Find N3.
This photo hints at a camera setup featuring three lenses and an LED flash arranged in a square layout on a circular module.

According to Digital Chat Station (via GizmoChina ), the Oppo Find N5, and therefore Open 2, retains a similar design to its predecessor, the Find N3, featuring a large, circular camera module on the back.
While specific measurements of the screen size remain unrevealed, the display is reportedly larger than that of the previous generation.
Additionally, the device is said to feature an “anti-drop body structure,” an intriguing detail revealed through translation.
Additionally, SmartPrix shared renders (above), reportedly based on a “late-stage prototype,” that provide the first look at the OnePlus Open 2. It looks like while minor design elements might change, significant alterations are unlikely.
The Open 2 seems to be set to be larger and thinner than its predecessor, retaining the distinctive circular camera island with prominent Hasselblad branding. When folded, it might measure just 10mm thick, compared to the original’s 11.7mm, and it might boast an IPX8 rating for water resistance (also reported by Digital Chat Station ), an upgrade from the IPX4 splash resistance of the previous model.
Display
The same source also claims that the internal screen of the Oppo Find N5 will support an impressive 2K+ resolution, enhancing its display quality significantly.
This high-resolution display is expected to improve the viewing experience for users, particularly with the larger screen size of this new model.
However, the most exciting thing about this display could be the totally uninterrupted viewing experience. According to Oppo, the Find N5’s internal screen will be totally creaseless . While it looks nearly invisible in official photos, it remains to be seen if it’ll be noticeable in everyday usage.
Performance
The OnePlus Open is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. This was the latest chipset at the time of launch, but we’ve seen two subsequent generations launch since.
Indeed, leaker Yogesh Brar suggests in an X post that the Open 2 will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Elite . However, this will supposedly be a seven-core version, meaning it’ll have one less CPU performance core than the regular chipset.
While the reduction in CPU cores could affect performance slightly, it’s still expected to be a big upgrade on the 8 Gen 2 in the original Open. Meanwhile, the reduced power consumption is likely to result in better power efficiency, which in turn benefits battery life.

Chinese leakers Digital Chat Station and Smart Pikachu think the same, as they report that the Oppo Find N5 will be powered by Qualcomm’s newest chipset.
The current model is only available in one configuration (16GB/512GB) and we don’t expect this to change with the release of the Open 2, especially as it offers more RAM and storage than the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold , for a lower price.
However, it would have been nice to see more storage options, for example in the form of an additional 1TB configuration.
Cameras
According to a new leak from Weibo , the OnePlus Open 2’s camera module may have a familiar design inspired by the OnePlus 13 .
The shared sketch (below) of the module reveals a camera island design reportedly shared with the Oppo Find N5, as the two devices are expected to be nearly identical.
The sketch indicates the LED flash will be located in the lower-right corner, with the periscope telephoto lens in the upper-left corner. The main and ultrawide cameras will occupy the remaining two cutouts.
The tipster also notes that the camera island’s protrusion won’t be overly pronounced, contrary to common expectations.

Digital Chat Station also reports (via GizmoChina ) that Oppo will continue to work with Hasselblad to integrate a powerful triple camera system in the Find N5. This setup reportedly includes a 50Mp main sensor, a 50Mp ultrawide lens, and a 50Mp periscope telephoto camera capable of 3x optical zoom, which they again claim to be featured.

Judging by leaked renders from Evan Blass (private account) reported by GSMArena , there appear to be three cameras on the back.
Elsewhere, the Find N5 has been listed in the Camera FV-5 database with the model number CPH2671 (via The Tech Outlook ). It reveals that the rear camera’s effective resolution is listed as 12.6Mp, indicating a 50Mp sensor with 4-in-1 pixel binning.
The front camera shows an effective resolution of 7.1Mp, suggesting a 28.4Mp sensor before binning, which hints at cropping and points towards a probable 32Mp selfie camera. The main rear camera is expected to feature an f/1.9 aperture, while the front camera has an f/2.4 aperture.
As a reminder, the OnePlus Open has five cameras: a 48Mp main, 64Mp 3x telephoto and 48Mp ultrawide on the back, plus 32Mp inner selfie and 20Mp cover selfie lenses.
Battery & charging
The OnePlus Open is equipped with a 4805mAh battery, providing most users with a full day of usage under typical conditions. But you’ll struggle with more intensive usage, making battery life a key weakness.
Back in July, Digital Chat Station (via Android Authority ) revealed that Oppo and Vivo are developing large foldable phones set to launch as early as Q1 2025, featuring the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and a substantial 6000mAh battery.
Now, the same source reports that the Find N5 (the basis for the Open 2 as a reminder) will feature a dual-cell battery configuration with a rated capacity of 5565mAh, likely reaching around 5700mAh in typical capacity.
Another Chinese leaker, Smart Pikachu , claims the phone will feature a 6000mAh cell.

The OnePlus Open features 67W fast charging, with the necessary charger included in the box. It can charge up to 50% in just 15 minutes, reaching a full charge in less than 45 minutes.
Although exact details on wired charging speeds of the Oppo Find N5/OnePlus Open 2 are yet to be confirmed, the device is rumoured to support both wireless and magnetic wireless charging, offering flexibility for users.
Both Digital Chat Station and Smart Pikachu also claim that the phone will feature wireless charging.
As for wired speeds, GSMArena reports that the Find N5 (and therefore Open 2) will support 80W wired charging. This is based on a certification in China’s 3C agency
Software
Many OnePlus devices have already received an update to Android 15 , along with OnePlus’ OxygenOS 15 skin. So it’s safe to assume that the OnePlus Open 2 will very likely debut with it as well.
All the current multitasking features available on the OnePlus Open are also likely to make their way to the Open 2, as well with some new additions.
