Mysterious billionaires and Italian mobsters take over the first trailer for season 5 of Only Murders in the Building, and this season looks to be the most complicated crime in the history of the show.
In the fourth instalment of the crime series, Mabel, Charles, and Oliver solved the assassination of Sazz Pataki. The stuntwoman’s death led to them uncovering many other mysteries, but also to making new friends – as the heroes befriended the residents of the Arconia’s West Wing during their investigation.
What’s more, our sleuths set out to conquer the West Coast after receiving an offer from Hollywood executives who wanted to adapt their podcast for a movie. Mabel, Charles and Oliver met the actors who were supposed to play them in the film: Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy and Zach Galifianakis.
Season 4 didn’t lack an exploration of personal problems for the trio. Oliver tried to sort out his relationship with Loretta, which happily ended with a wedding. Charles faced guilt over the death of Sazz, but also managed to repair his relationship with his sister. Meanwhile, Mabel continued her search for her place in the world – as usual.
However, it doesn’t mean that Oliver, Charles, and Mabel can sleep tight – another bloody mystery is looming on the horizon. Here’s what we know about the fifth instalment of Only Murders in the Building.

Only Murders in the Building season 5 release date
The whodunnit series will return for season 5 on Disney+ and Hulu on Tuesday, 9 September 2025. The first three episodes will premiere on that day, with the rest dropping every Tuesday. The season will consist of 10 episodes in total.
The first season came out at the end of August 2021. Season 2 followed in June 2022, and season 3 arrived in August 2023. As you can see, the individual seasons appear at roughly one-year intervals.
In the US, you can stream all four seasons on the Hulu website . British fans can watch the show on Disney+ .

Only Murders in the Building season 5 plot
In season 4, the trio of detectives succeeded in solving the case of Sazz’s murder, but of course, this didn’t bring an end to the crimes in Arconia.
The day after the Oliver and Loretta’s wedding, Charles and Mabel encountered a mysterious woman in the corridor. She introduced herself as Sofia Caccimelio and asked the podcasters to help solve the mystery of her husband’s death. However, the heroes refused, explaining that they only dealt with crimes committed in the Arconia. Sofia stated that her case was related to the building, but didn’t try to insist.
Meeting Oliver, the trio of detectives set off for a walk in Arconia’s courtyard. Unfortunately, in the fountain they found the body of Lester, the doorman.
Until now, the doorman has been more of a background figure, having brief conversations with the characters. In his last scene, he tried to tell Charles and Oliver the story of his wedding in the courtyard of Arconia but didn’t complete his tale. Perhaps it will be important in solving the mystery of his murder.
Here’s the official description of season 5:
After their beloved doorman, Lester, dies under suspicious circumstances, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel refuse to believe it was an accident. Their investigation plunges them into the shadowy corners of New York and beyond — where the trio uncovers a dangerous web of secrets connecting powerful billionaires, old-school mobsters, and the mysterious residents of the Arconia. The trio discovers a deeper divide between their storied city they thought they knew and the new New York evolving around them — one where the old mob fights to hold on as newer, even more dangerous players emerge.
In season 5, we will surely meet Sofia Caccimelio again, whose appearance may have something to do with Lester’s death. It’s also likely that the creators will return to two unexplained threads from the first season – the poisoning of Howard’s dog and the mysterious letter on Jan’s apartment door.
As for Jan, she too may appear in the new episodes, as will Loretta, who left to film in New Zealand after her nuptials with Oliver.

The series’ heart is the trio of tireless podcasters and amateur detectives: Oliver Putnam, Charles-Haden Savage and Mabel Mora. Martin Short, Steve Martin and Selena Gomez , respectively, star as these characters.

Jane Lynch will probably be missing from the new episodes – the characters and creators said goodbye to Sazz in season 4, and it would be rather difficult to bring her back.

Who killed Sazz Pataki in Only Murders in the Building season 4?
In the ninth episode of season 4, it was revealed that the stuntwoman was killed by Marshall P. Pope – her former pupil, fellow stuntman and wannabe scriptwriter.
In the season finale, it turned out that Sazz showed Marshall her movie script based on the Only Murders in the Building podcast. It was so good that Marshall stole it and sent it to Hollywood as his own. When Sazz found out, she wanted to reveal herself as its true author.
However, Marshall followed her to New York. After the premiere of Oliver’s play, as an experienced sniper, he shot her through a window in the Arconia’s West Wing. He then walked across the windowsill to Charles’ apartment and burned Sazz’s corpse in the incinerator in the basement.
Marshall also killed Glen Stubbins, who recognised him from his stunt work on set.
The Westies, whom Mabel, Oliver and Charles initially suspected of the killing, turned out to have nothing to do with it. Instead, they were partially responsible for the disappearance of Professor Dudenoff. Knowing of his terminal illness, he committed suicide. They then fulfilled his last wish and burned his body in the incinerator. At the same time, they sustained the charade that Dudenoff went to Portugal, which helped them keep the cheap apartments they had rented from him.

Will there be a season 6 of Only Murders in the Building?
Currently, there’s no announcement on the sixth instalment of the series. Information on this will probably appear after the premiere of season 5.
