Oppo and Hasselblad have been working together for four years now, and the results are plain to see.

Oppo’s Find X8 series phones are considered some of the best camera phones ever made, and part of that can be attributed to the colour tuning and lens simulations that the Hasselblad partnership provides.

Today, at a special event in Gothenburg, Sweden, Oppo announced that its Hasselblad partnership will continue, though it’s unclear how long for.

Pete Lau, Chief Product Officer at Oppo, said, “Over the past four years, we have brought the truly professional, legendary camera experience of Hasselblad to Oppo’s global users. With the extension of our collaboration, we will push the boundaries of mobile imaging even further.”

Oppo Find X8 Pro review 2 - 1

Photographers will be very familiar with the Hasselblad brand, but if you’re not, here’s a quick rundown. Hasselblad makes some of the most advanced (and most expensive) cameras on the market. It’s a company with a rich history that dates back to 1841, and it made the cameras that NASA used for the first moon landing.

That’s all to say, Hasselblad has some serious clout in photographic circles, and obviously it knows what it’s doing when it comes to image tuning. So, it’s easy to see why Oppo wants Hasselblad on its side.

We’ve already seen this partnership extend to the styling of Oppo’s flagship phones , as well as the inclusion of specialist photo modes like the XPAN 65:24 panoramic format, and bokeh simulations designed to emulate classic Hasselblad lenses. But it seems that this is just the beginning.

Oppo’s announcement says the two brands are currently co-developing a next-generation imaging system, “which is set to establish a new standard for quality and experience in mobile imaging”.

We’re not exactly sure what that means yet, but Oppo says we’ll find out more later this year. I think it’s safe to say the upcoming Find X9 series will be pretty exciting, but will the Ultra finally make it to the UK? Time will tell.
