Oral-B’s iO line is its latest range of electric toothbrushes. iO brushes feature linear magnetic drive technology, using magnets for a quieter and more effective brushing performance. We rate it as the best we’ve tested.
There are nine iO brushes, ranging from the more budget-friendly iO2 to the flagship iO10 , which not only has excellent brushing performance but a host of bells and whistles too. Now Oral-B has launched an even more luxe version of its flagship: the iO10 Gold Special Edition. It’s crammed with new features, the best of which adjusts its cleaning intensity to match your brushing style – and it comes in a Lunar Gold colourway.

Oral B iO10 Gold Special Edition features
It has four key new features:
- Smart Adapt technology: This intelligent brushing system adjusts cleaning intensity based on your brushing style. That means you won’t over-brush and risk damage to your teeth and gums, and your teeth will always be effectively cleaned.
- Pre-brushing battery reminder: You’ll get an alert to remind you to recharge your brush when only two or three brushing sessions remain, so it won’t surprise you by dying midway through a brushing session. You’ll also be able to see on the screen that it’s charging properly.
- More noticeable refill reminders, delivered to your smartphone. If you buy replacement heads in bulk, this won’t be a particularly useful feature and I hope there’s a way to switch it off.
- New onscreen displays and icons for guidance.
These new functions are on top of the iO10’s existing feature set, which includes:
- A full-colour OLED screen on the brush handle, with scrollable menus and a countdown timer.
- Live brushing coaching to perfect your technique, plus other smart features.
- Red/green light ring pressure sensor to let you know when you’re brushing too hard and when you’ve got it just right.
- Seven brushing modes, including sensitive, gum care, intense and whitening.
- iO Sense Smart Charger: Exclusive to the iO10, this charger features a brushing countdown timer and light-display brushing coaching, so you don’t need to keep an eye on the screen on the handle or check in the app.
- Three-hour fast charging.
- Around 20 brushing sessions per charge.
Price and where to buy
You can buy the Oral-B iO10 Gold Special Edition from Oral-B in the UK and Boots , although we can’t yet find it in stock from that retailer. As always when Oral-B brushes launch in the UK, the price for the Special Edition iO10 is absolutely wild – £800. It’s not yet available in the US.
But in reality, £800 isn’t what you’ll pay. The brush is already on offer for £280 from Oral-B . Buy and you’ll get the brush, charger, a charging travel case and a mini case that holds two brush heads.
There are also offers on the same brush and accessories, but with with four brush heads ( for £295 ), or eight brush heads ( for £302 ).
