The tale of the Birmingham gangsters is far from over. Thanks to Netflix, Peaky Blinders will return in a feature film exploring what happens next to Tommy Shelby and his feisty family.
Created by the BBC, the series was a huge hit that shot Cillian Murphy, who starred as the leader of the Peaky Blinders gang, back into the limelight. The audience immediately fell in love with the tough, cunning and stylishly-clad Tommy Shelby, as he navigated through the gangster underworld of post-First World War England.
Tommy, of course, wasn’t the only great character in the series. The grim world of Peaky Blinders was populated by many fascinating personalities, such as Aunt Polly (Helen McCrory), Arthur Shelby (Paul Anderson) and Alfie Solomon (Tom Hardy).
Interestingly, the show reignited interest in 1920s’ fashion – with iconic gangster outfits consisting of tailored suits, overcoats and flat caps attracting the attention of fashion lovers.

What is Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man plot?
Steven Knight, the screenwriter for the film, revealed ( via Collider ):
It’s set during 1940, when Birmingham was being carpet-bombed every night by the German Air Force. So, obviously, the stakes are higher. People don’t know if they’re going to live until tomorrow morning. There’s a lot of hedonism, there’s a lot of fatalism, and you’re throwing into that Tommy Shelby who was having his own existential crisis. The stakes are all much higher. The budget’s bigger, and let’s be honest, that helps. I would say this, but the cast, I think, is the best British cast that we could possibly have gotten into one place. They are all at the top of their game. I’ve seen rushes and assemblies, and I’m seeing the first cut in a couple of weeks. It is phenomenally good.
The series Peaky Blinders ended in 2022, and the season 6 finale could be described as enigmatic. After fighting an IRA battle and killing Michael, Tommy, suffering from a tumour in his lungs, decides to commit suicide. However, he is dissuaded from this step by the ghost of Ruby, his deceased daughter, thanks to whom Tommy realises that the diagnosis given to him was false.
In the final scene of season 6, Tommy rides off into the hills on a white horse, leaving his burning wagon behind, intent on starting a new life.
Who stars in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man?
By order of the Peaky Blinders, Netflix is gathering a really impressive cast for its project.
Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy will reprise his iconic role of Tommy Shelby. He will star alongside Rebecca Ferguson , who you may know as Lady Jessica in Dune 2 and Juliette Nichols from Silo . Netflix is keeping her character a secret for now.
Barry Keoghan is another exciting addition to the cast. The Irish actor, whose career skyrocketed after memorable performances in The Banshees of Inisherin and Saltburn, has been cast in an undisclosed role.
Tim Roth (Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood) and Jay Lycurgo (Titans) have also joined the exciting lineup.
The following actors from the Peaky Blinders series will reprise their roles in the movie:
- Sophie Rundle as Ada Thorne
- Stephen Graham as Hayden Stagg
- Ned Dennehy as Charlie Strong
- Packy Lee as Johnny Dogs
- Ian Peck as Curly
Sadly, we won’t see the return of Helen McCrory , who starred as Aunt Polly, one of the most recognisable characters from the series – she passed away in 2021. In the series, Polly was killed by the IRA. Aberama Gold and Barney Thompson were also killed, so we won’t see Aidan Gillen and Cosmo Jarvis in the film either.
Michael, portrayed by Finn Cole , is also not expected to return in the movie, as he was shot dead by Tommy in season 6. We will also not see Tommy’s daughter Ruby, who died of tuberculosis.
