Google has announced the rollout of a software update for all Pixel Watch smartphone users that promise to fix a number of issues.

The March Pixel Drop promised great things for Pixel Watch users, but turned out to be a bit of a disaster, at least for some users.

Certain Pixel Watch users found themselves stuck on the November 2024 build of Google’s wearable OS, unable to update. Others who did manage to update found that step tracking had become wildly unreliable in certain scenarios.

Now Wear OS 5.1 is available to all Pixel Watch users globally, and should clean up any lingering issues.

What’s in the April Pixel Watch update?

According to a new post from Google, the new April 2025 Pixel Watch update (version BP1A.250305.019.W8) will fix both of these issues.

It’s rolling out to all Pixel Watch 1, Pixel Watch 2 , and Pixel Watch 3 wearables, which is a start.

Google also assures us that the skewed step count issue has been fixed – kind of. The company is reverting the previously heralded step algorithm enhancements to the previous stable version, so it’s back to the drawing board on that one.

As we reported last month, the new Pixel Watch update was supposed to bring with it better accuracy when tracking steps, with the ability to better detect when your walking pattern deviates from the norm.

For those who missed the March Pixel Watch update

If you’re one of those Pixel Watch owners who missed the March update, this April revision brings with it some extra goodies.

Pixel Watch 2 owners now get access to the Pixel Watch 3’s Auto-bedtime Mode, which detects when you nod off and turns off your watch face and notifications.

Pixel Watch 3 owners, meanwhile, gain menstrual health tracking capabilities, allowing you to log periods, view cycle status and predict your next period in the Fitbit app.

Here’s hoping the Wear OS 5.1 update for Pixel Watch goes off without a hitch this time around.
