The Samsung Galaxy A36, as well as the Samsung Galaxy A56, look set to provide a pair of new mid-range smartphone options soon.

Samsung India has posted a teaser video to YouTube hinting that it will be announcing new Galaxy A-series devices shortly. These are widely tipped to be the Samsung Galaxy A36 and Samsung Galaxy A56, while the Samsung Galaxy A26 is also in with a shout of appearing.

Update: Samsung India has now posted a ‘notify me’ page for the new Galaxy A devices with an unveiling date of 2 March which coincides with MWC .

What does the Samsung video tell us?

In the one-minute video, which is evidently targeted at a younger demographic (feel the pounding EDM beats; witness the emoji), Samsung promises a number of “Awesome” things from these new A-series devices.

They’ll have awesome design, camera, durability, and security.

Perhaps most interesting of all, the Galaxy A36 and Galaxy A56 (if it truly is to be these two phones) will come with six OS updates. That would be a big improvement on the Samsung Galaxy A35 and the Samsung Galaxy A55 , both of which came with the promise of four OS updates.

What doesn’t the Samsung video tell us?

This is a pure teaser video, and it doesn’t tell us the specific names of the devices, nor when exactly Samsung will be announcing them. Reports suggest it could be as soon as next week, but we’ll see.

Curiously, the devices shown in the video might not even be the actual Galaxy A36 and Galaxy A56. Leaks and rumours heavily suggest that Samsung is changing the design of the rear camera for these phones, joining them back together in a single lozenge-shaped module.

One of those leaks, from Android Headlines , reveals official Galaxy A-series case accessories, highlighting the new unified camera design.

The official video, however, features A-series devices with the current separated camera design. Is Samsung playing coy with us?

It does use the video to shout about the A-Series’s 89 million users, and there’s a generic feel about the whole thing. But then to sneak in the point about six OS updates, which no current A-series device has, suggests that this is a forward-looking video.

Why should I care about the Samsung Galaxy A36 and A56?

So yet another bunch of affordable phones is being announced by Samsung. Why should you care?

How about the fact that we have listed the Galaxy A36’s immediate predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy A35, as one of our favourite mid-range phones on the market?

Our reviewer called it “great value for the average user”, and praised its software support, decent cameras, strong display, and excellent battery life.

We were similarly effusive about the Galaxy A55, calling out as one of the best mid-range options around. We praised its premium Galaxy S-like build, excellent battery life, and competitive pricing.
