Samsung has just announced the Galaxy S25 Edge, and it may have just spelled the end of the Plus smartphone series as we know it.

According to a new report from South Korean website The Elec , next year’s Samsung Galaxy S26 Edge could arrive earlier in the year as part of the wider Galaxy S26 range.

That has the potential to annoy any Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge buyers, who will find their £1,099 phone superseded within eight months.

Gaining an Edge, losing a Plus

However, that’s not the biggest news to emerge from this latest rumour. Apparently, the Galaxy S26 Edge wouldn’t join the existing roster so much as it would replace one of the members.

It’s claimed that the Samsung Galaxy 26+ would be jettisoned in favour for Samsung’s second-generation skinny model. The Samsung Galaxy S25+ could be the last Plus model we ever see.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumours of a major S-series shakeup for 2026. Towards the end of 2024 it was claimed that Samsung would ditch the regular Samsung Galaxy S26, leaving us with just the Plus and the Ultra.

That was before the Edge came into the equation, of course, with its awkwardly Plus-sized footprint and display.

Don’t mourn the Plus just yet

The report points out that Samsung is waiting to see how much of a sales hit the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is before it decides either way. You have to suspect that the success (or otherwise) of Apple’s forthcoming iPhone 17 Air will also play a major part in Samsung’s decision.

Indeed, it’s been suggested before that Apple may swap out its own iPhone 17 Plus for the new super-slim model.

Still another source seems to suggest that Samsung is producing four AMOLED displays for next year’s flagship line-up, which would suggest that Samsung is going go with a four-model approach for the Galaxy S26 range. Time will tell.

We have our own reservations about the whole skinny phone approach. Give us a small footprint with a huge battery any day.
