Samsung Galaxy Tab S11: Key Upgrades

In summary

  • Thinner and lighter, with a new S Pen
  • A new processor and a larger battery for the Ultra
  • Plenty of new software features with One UI 8, based on Android 16

Thinner, lighter and a redesigned S Pen

It’s not a big surprise that the Galaxy Tab S11 series looks very similar to its predecessors. Samsung has, much like Apple’s iPads, created a style and is sticking with it.

The big news this year is that the range now consists of a regular Tab S11 and the Tab S11 Ultra. It means the + model is gone and should make it easier to choose the right one.

Samsung has managed to slim the Ultra down to just 5.1mm from 5.4mm and the regular Tab S11 is 5.5mm. Despite a huge 14.6-inch screen, the Ultra now just weighs 692g for the Wi-Fi model.

The popular S Pen stylus has also been ‘redesigned’ and now comes with a hexagonal shape for improved comfort and it has a new cone-shaped tip for better control and increased tilt angles. Curiously, though, the spec sheet says it’s not Bluetooth Low Energy which seems like a downgrade.

More power under the hood

Despite getting thinner, Samsung has improved performance with a new MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ which you’ll find inside both models. The firm says it offers 33% in NPU, 24% in CPU and 27% in GPU performance gains.

There’s also improvement in the battery department with a large 11,600mAh cell inside the Ultra (up 400mAh from the S10 Ultra) and 8400mAh for the regular S11 (the same as the Tab S9 ).

One UI 8 with AI and better DeX

Naturally, software is a big deal and the S11 series gets you Samsung’s (and Google’s) latest and greatest.

You get Samsung’s latest One UI 8 software based on Android 16 and though it will be rolled out to older devices, including the Tab S10 range, starting in October, you get plenty of new features.

DeX, Samsung’s desktop experience now offers an Extended Mode turns the tablet into an external monitor for a dual-screen setup and you can now create up to four separate workspaces for different uses and projects.

Samsung says that One UI 8 brings “more natural and intuitive interactions” and, of course, there is plenty of AI onboard including Google Gemini, which you can access by holding the side button.

There’s also Gemini Live support for real-time screen sharing and visual input and the Book Cover Keyboard Slim has a dedicated Galaxy AI Key.

Furthermore, Tab S11 users can make use of a selection of features, including Drawing Assistant, Writing Assistant, Circle to Search and Quick Tools.
