In summary:

  • Samsung is reportedly producing one million units of its new Galaxy Fold Wide, marking the company’s largest special model order in three years according to Tech Advisor.
  • The device features a unique 4:3 aspect ratio with a 7.6-inch internal display and 5.4-inch external screen, differentiating it from the square Galaxy Z Fold 7.
  • Expected to launch in Q3 alongside Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8, this aggressive production target signals Samsung’s growing confidence in foldable technology expansion.

Samsung is reportedly producing an initial batch of one million units of its new Wide Fold foldable, which is more ambitious than expected.

Back when rumours of Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold foldable were flying around, it was said that the company was being extremely cautious with its projections, with initial production numbers as low as 50,000 units.

It isn’t being anything like as tentative with its next foldable special project, if reports from Korea are to be believed.

According to ETnews , the company is planning to produce one million units of its so-called “Wide Fold” model. This would be the largest volume it has ordered for one of its special models over the past three years.

Samsung’s foldable confidence

The reasons for Samsung’s bold production plan are said to be a mixture of confidence in the new product type (which Apple evidently shares) and an attempt to aggressively expand its foldable sales.

In case you’ve lost track of the various Galaxy Fold foldables in the pipeline, the Samsung Galaxy Fold Wide is set to pre-empt the iPhone Fold with a slightly wider internal display. It’ll still only measure around 7.6 inches, if reports are to be believed, but will be configured in a 4:3 aspect ratio rather than the square Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.

The external screen will measure 5.4 inches, which is smaller than your average book-style foldable.

We’re expecting to see the Samsung Galaxy Fold Wide launched alongside the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8 some times n the third quarter of the year. This in itself marks a shift in strategy, as previous special models have been launched away from the main foldable series so as to avoid cannibalisation.

Could Honor join the fray?

In separate but related news, a tipster has revealed that Honor is to join the wide foldable fray.

According to the claim (via Huaweicentral ), Honor’s wider foldable will replace the existing Honor Magic Vs series, coming in at a similar price.

The company may also leave its smaller Honor Magic V Flip line untouched in 2026.
