  • Samsung pauses One UI 8 update for Galaxy S23 and S24
  • No reason specified
  • Latest snag in a protracted rollout

Samsung has paused its Android 16 update programme for millions of Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24 smartphones .

The company belatedly started sending out its One UI 8 update to older Galaxy phones in September, but this has now apparently been put on hold – first for the Galaxy S24 line, and now for the Galaxy S23 line too.

As of this moment, the latest version of One UI on Samsung’s servers is an Android 15 build.

As SamMobile reports, Samsung hasn’t supplied any reason for halting its One UI 8/Android 16 update initiative. There have been no major instances of critical bugs or flaws from those who have already received the new UI and OS combo.

Samsung, however, has evidently spotted something that needs fixing.

One UI 8’s troubled past – and big future

It’s the latest snag in One UI 8’s protracted rollout. Samsung’s latest UI was initially made available with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 in late July – around three months ago at this point.

The company commenced rolling out a number of beta versions to older phones, before finally starting to commit to final versions in mid-September .

Samsung’s new UI supplies “advanced multimodal AI capabilities, a UX optimised for different device form factors and personalised, proactive suggestions to make everyday life smarter and more convenient”.

However, the really big improvements over One UI 7 are rumoured to be coming in a One UI 8.5 update, which could roll out in January or February of 2026.
