At MWC 2023, Sony unveiled seven new TVs for the year – ranging from premium OLED and Mini LED panels to entry-level screens. The most notable difference from last year is that the four TVs in the Bravia XR range come with a new technology from Sony called XR Clear Image.
Delivered by the updated Cognitive Processor XR, a staple of Sony TVs, XR Clear Image claims to improve noise reduction and motion clarity, which means that any scenes with fast movement should have reduced blur and feel livelier. A boon for film buffs, particularly those into action movies.
In addition, XR Clear Image improves 4K upscaling specifically for different resolutions, resulting in less noise resolution and improved picture quality overall. This still applies if you’re watching content through another device, such as a Blu-ray player.
Sony has added other tweaks to the picture quality for the 2023 range, including more local dimming zones on the X95L Mini-LED model for less blooming, and 200% brighter tones on the A95L QD-OLED model in comparison to last year’s TV, the A95K. Those wanting a super size telly can get the X90L in up to 98in.
These aren’t exactly the most ground-breaking upgrades from Sony – LG certainly outshined the company with its new WOLED technology, while Philips made headlines last month when it launched its TVs with V2 of the Ambient Intelligence system.

All TVs in the Bravia XR range support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, and are IMAX enhanced. They also include Acoustic Centre Sync, which matches the TV’s audio with the center channel of a soundbar – providing that said audio product is also a Sony one, of course.
They all come with Google TV OS, as well as Bravia Core – Sony’s library of movies and TV series. If you purchase a model in the Bravia XR range, Sony will throw in ten free credits and 24 months of free streaming.
The Bravia XR TVs come with a 3-way aluminium stand that allows the TVs to either be positioned as standard, in a narrow position for smaller surfaces, or raised to tuck a soundbar beneath.
The TVs available in Sony’s 2023 Bravia XR are:
- A95L QD-OLED: 55-, 65- and 77in
- X95L Mini-LED: 65-, 75-, and 85in
- A80L OLED: 55-, 65-, 77- and 83in
- X90L Full Array LED: 55-, 65-, 75-, 85- and 98in
These will be joined by the more mid-range and entry-level TVs from the Bravia range, made up of the following models:
- X80L: 43-, 50-, 55-, 65-, 75- and 85in
- X85L: 55-, 65-, and 75in
- X75WL: 43-, 50-, 55-, 65- and 75in
Sony hasn’t yet confirmed the prices or availability for any of these TVs, but we will update this article with the latest information should that change.
