It’s been two years since Clark Kent made his last appearance in a film. Now, Zack Snyder’s DC universe is gone, and a new era has begun – Superman, directed by James Gunn, is rolling out now in movie theatres.
The film features David Corenswet as the Kryptonian superhero, Rachel Brosnahan as journalist Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as the iconic villain, Lex Luthor. It captures the early days of Clark Kent’s superhero journey and introduces many other iconic DC Comics characters, such as Green Lantern, Mister Terrific, and Hawkgirl.

When could Superman be released on VOD?
Superman is available for buy and rent in the UK and US.
Surprisingly, Superman appeared on digital just 35 days after the cinema debut. Quick VOD releases are often dictated by a film’s poor box office performance. However, Superman is a smashing hit, at the time of writing, grossing $595 million worldwide.
James Gunn, Superman’s director and co-CEO for DC Films, explained ( via Variety ):
Well, it’s very complicated, but the truth is it is because of Peacemaker. I originally thought Peacemaker was going to be coming out next month. There was a lot of things that are beyond our control, so that Peacemaker is coming out now, and, at the end of the day, I wanted everyone to be able to see Superman that wanted to, even those people who couldn’t get to a theater before Peacemaker. And that’s really the reason for it.
It is worth noting that Superman isn’t an exception. Warner Bros. films such as Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Minecraft Movie premiered on VOD, respectively, 32 and 39 days after they opened in cinemas.

When could Superman be released on DVD/Blu-ray?
In the United Kingdom, physical copies of Warner films typically arrive around 42 days after they are released on VOD. Therefore, Superman may appear in UK stores a few days after the US release.
When could Superman be released on streaming services?
In the US, A Minecraft Movie will stream on HBO Max. Some Warner films drop on the service very quickly – Dune: Part Two and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice appeared on HBO Max, respectively, 7 and 17 days after DVD and Blu-ray debut.
By contrast, Sinners took 31 days to arrive, and A Minecraft Movie took 38 days after the VOD release.
Therefore, we believe Superman will premiere on HBO Max between Tuesday, 30 September 2025 and Friday, 31 October 2025.
UK-based fans will be able to catch Superman on Sky Cinema and Now. Considering previous releases, it will probably hit streaming in this country at a different time than in the States, but we can’t yet predict an exact time. Stay tuned for the latest news on this.
