  • OnePlus 15R screen, camera, and processor confirmed
  • OnePlus Pad Go 2 and Watch Lite also on the way
  • December 17 launch

OnePlus has spilled some fresh details on the OnePlus 15R smartphone ahead of its 17 December unveiling.

We were mightily impressed with the OnePlus 15 , the brand’s latest flagship phone. However, it’s only the first part of a swift one-two attack.

The other part is the OnePlus 15R, are more cunningly specced and modestly priced alternative. Read our OnePlus 13R for the gist of what OnePlus is shooting for with this R-series.

Now the company has issued the first solid spec details on the OnePlus 15R.

OnePlus 15R specs

First up, we have had it confirmed that the OnePlus 15R will pack the same Detailmax Engine that drove the OnePlus 15’s camera system along. That’s no surprise, given that OnePlus somewhat controversially scrapped its agreement with Hasselblad for this generation.

The OnePlus 15R’s camera will get all three of the new camera technologies – Ultra Clear Mode, Clear Burst and the Clear Night Engine – that took a bow in the OnePlus 15.

OnePlus has also confirmed Qualcomm’s previous announcement that the OnePlus 15R would be the first phone powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. Did you note the lack of ‘Elite’ in the name there? We’re expecting flagship-ish but not quite top-level performance.

It’ll also pack the new G2 Wi-Fi and the Touch Response Chip. We won’t insult you by spelling out what they’re aiming to improve. The clue’s in the name, in both instances.

We also get confirmation that the OnePlus 15R will run a 165Hz 1.5K AMOLED display, with the ability to scale down from 1800 nits of brightness to 2 nits by default, or 1 nit with Reduce White Point activated.

OnePlus Pad Go 2 and Watch Lite

While the OnePlus 15R is clearly the headline act here, the company has also dropped a few tasty morsels about the OnePlus Pad Go 2 and the OnePlus Watch Lite.

The former will be a mid-range tablet with a 12.1-inch 2.8K display with a peak brightness of 900 nits and Dolby Vision support. OnePlus’s Open Canvas software should give multitasking a boost on that big screen.

It shouldn’t surprise you to learn that the OnePlus Watch Lite will be an accessibly priced smartwatch. However, the brand doesn’t appear to be going the plastic route, promising “a premium Phantom Black finish crafted from 316L stainless steel” with a 8.9mm thickness and a weight of 35g.

There’ll be a 1.46-inch AMOLED display around front with a 3,000 nits peak brightness in Sports Mode. We should also get 10-day battery life, more than 100 sports modes, and a comprehensive Wellness Overview.
