If you want to take good care of your teeth, buy an electric toothbrush. But which one? At Tech Advisor, we test every new brush we can get our hands on.

The perfect brush for you might not be the perfect brush for someone else. That’s why we have round-ups for the best electric toothbrush , the best cheap electric toothbrush , the best Oral-B electric toothbrush – and even a complete guide to all Oral-B iO models .

However, there are some models that are so good that we’d recommend them to virtually anyone. And one of those is this year’s winner.

We’ve also chosen a runner-up that impressed us hugely for its quality at a very low price point.

Best New Electric Toothbrush of the Year – Winner: Suri 2.0

The greatest satisfaction for us as tech writers is when we can recommend a product that works brilliantly, is priced well and is environmentally sound. It’s the dream and, in a nutshell, that’s the Suri 2.0.

Suri’s second electric toothbrush, released this year, addresses the limitations of the original model (a brushing performance that erred on the side of gentle, no pressure sensor) and adds some nice new features, while retaining its sustainable credentials.

Its brush heads are recyclable via the brand, and the coated aluminium brush handle is repairable.

However, much as we love its minimal environmental impact, that wouldn’t be enough to snag our award.

It wins because everything about the brush is thoughtfully designed. The Suri 2.0 is simply a pleasure to use. It’s quiet, comfortable to hold, stylish and made up of high quality materials.

Then there are the features. It has a pair of brushing modes, a two-minute brushing timer, quadrant alerts and a pressure sensor. It’s a minimalist approach, but everything you need is there.

What really swings it though is the battery life, which lasted for well over a month in our test, and its fast USB charging.

Okay, it’s not a cheap brush. It’s currently priced at £94.50, but you get a lot for your money, including a charging travel case that cleans your brush with UV light.

Altogether, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. Read Tech Advisor’s full Suri 2.0 review to find out more.

Best New Electric Toothbrush of the Year – Runner-up: Ordo Sonic Edge

Ordo Sonic Edge with award logo overlaid - 3

It’s generally difficult for us to recommend very cheap electric toothbrushes for the simple reason that they don’t tend to be very good.

Until recently, the cheapest electric toothbrush we’d recommend is the Oral-B Vitality Pro, usually available for around £22.50 .

It’s a good brush but it has limitations. It’s bulky, as is its charger, and its charging time is long .

So, we weren’t expecting much when we tested the £14.99 Ordo Sonic Edge. And what a surprise it delivered.

As you’d expect, it only has a single brushing mode, but when we tested it, we found it nicely judged. It’s not too gentle, which is often an issue with cheaper models. It has a two-minute brushing timer and quadrant alerts every thirty seconds.

The Edge is well made too, for its price, with an IPX7 water resistance rating, stated battery life of up to six weeks and USB charging.

It uses the same brush heads as its pricier siblings including the Ordo Sonic Lite. The advantage here is that they’re very good quality. The disadvantage is that relatively speaking, they’re not as budget-friendly as the brush itself. Still, at around £3 each, they do undercut rivals.

Ordo’s Sonic Edge has no business being as good as it is for this price. If you can’t justify spending a lot on an electric toothbrush, this is well worth the outlay. It would be a good option for anyone wanting to try an electric toothbrush for the first time, or for students to take to university.

It comes in a range of colour options too, making it an attractive option as a stocking filler. You can find out more in our Ordo Sonic Edge review .
