There’s never been a better time to invest in MagSafe accessories.
With an extensive range of first- and third-party options, plus support via Pixelsnap on the Pixel 10 series , we’re in a golden era for magnetic accessories.
But how do you decide which to go for? Well, I’ve been using one in particular for two years now, and can’t imagine life without it.
A next-level tripod stand
But for all the power banks and wireless charging stands available today, there’s one MagSafe accessory that hasn’t left whatever phone lives in my pocket at any given time, since I first slapped it on, back in late 2023.
Really, there’s no other accessory I’ve used – potentially ever – as consistently and for as long as Moft’s Snap Phone Tripod Stand . Given it costs just £31 at the time of writing, I want other people to experience all of its benefits.
The concept is simple: most phone tripods, selfie sticks and the like are compact, but they usually fold down to something approximately the size and shape of a can of deodorant, which means they usually still need their own pocket when not in use.
Moft’s solution is about the size and shape of three credit cards stacked together, and it snaps onto the back of your phone while only adding minimal bulk.
You can see the company’s penchant for transposing the sensibilities of origami across the various accessories it makes for phones, tablets and laptops, but the Snap Phone Tripod Stands are particularly effective in their combination of simplicity and versatility.
This ingenious MagSafe accessory features a rigid structure, wrapped in your choice of colours of the company’s MOVAS vegan leather. It features a single metal hinge, paired with an additional fold-out strut, which locks into place magnetically.
While simple on the surface, it’s only once I started to live with it that I realised how much of a game-changer this thing actually is.
Being able to have your phone propped up on a table at almost any angle (thanks to the tight-tolerance hinge), instead of lying flat, makes it that much more glanceable. Commuting or taking a long train ride? As it supports MagSafe, you can orient your phone at any angle, meaning it’s also great for watching shows or gaming in landscape.
Flying? Depending on seat design, I’ve been able to tuck it into the closed tray table on short-hauls without screens for some hands-free in-flight viewing.
Open the hinge out to 180 degrees, and you’ve suddenly fashioned a selfie stick, which works for snapping pics or watching landscape content one-handed on the go, without the awkward claw grip and wrist fatigue you’d usually encounter.
Fold the supporting strut out, and you’ve then fully deployed tripod mode. This gives you a more stable base to set your phone down and step away for a timed group shot, whilst also adding clearance to the USB port (when your phone’s in a portrait orientation).
It means you get that same upright desktop glanceability as before, but with the added bonus of being able to fit the end of your USB cable in for easy charging.
And when you’re all done, it again folds right down to something as thick as a few bank cards, in less than a second.
It’s not just me who’s fallen in love with this accessory. In 2024, it won a prestigious Red Dot Design Award, it’s currently marked as a best-seller on Moft’s website, and due to its popularity, the company recently added even more functionality to it by integrating a two-card wallet.
A surprisingly low price tag
Interested in the base Moft Snap Phone Tripod Stand? At the time of writing, it’ll set you back just £31, before any deals or discounts. And for those after the Moft Snap Phone Tripod Wallet , that only goes for a fraction more, at £39.
The icing on the cake is that Moft even throws in an adhesive MagSafe ring, so even if your phone or case currently lacks MagSafe support, you can retrofit it to make use of the company’s Snap accessories at no extra cost.
