Xiaomi announced a lot of great products at MWC 2025 , including the Xiaomi 15 smartphone, but one colourway might be the most impractical design I’ve ever seen.

It’s a shame we don’t get the Xiaomi 15 Custom Edition in the West but we do get one of the most striking colourways I’ve seen in years – the Liquid Silver model.

Like something out of a house of mirrors at a funfair, this model has a highly reflective rear cover with a ‘3D Wave Texture’. Xiaomi has made it with heat-moulded glass.

It’s a little thicker and heavier than the other colourways and doesn’t have the volcano deco design around the camera bump, but that’s not the problem here.

We’ve seen plenty of mirror-like reflective phones in the past but at least those had the advantage of being able to check your hair and makeup quickly. The wavy, water-like, pattern on the back of the Liquid Silver Xiaomi 15 gives you a distorted view.

Even worse, the device is the worst smudge and fingerprint magnet. I was second in line to see it after Xiaomi’s keynote launch at MWC and it needed a full wet wipe clean. It also attracts dust, too.

Sure, I kind of like the unusual look, but it’s more at home being used as an ornament in the lobby of a boutique hotel than a phone you need to touch with your hands every day.

You could cover it up with a clear silicone case, but then you’re not getting the full effect of the design making it pretty pointless.

My advice? Stick to the nice green colourway, or even the black or white options. You can order one now, with prices starting from £899.
