Tokyo Vice has attracted both enthusiasts of Japanese culture and fans of gangster stories. The neo-noir series, based on Jake Adelstein’s autobiographical novel, takes viewers into the criminal world of the Japanese capital and reveals its darkest secrets.
The first season was quite a success, and its finale was packed with cliffhangers to the brim. No wonder, then, that fans were on edge waiting for season 2 to premiere.
Thankfully, the second season has already arrived at Max – we’ve gathered the most essential information about it.
Tokyo Vice season 2 release date
The new season is rolling out episodes now on Max .
In the US, the show’s second instalment debuted on Thursday 8 February 2024, with a two-episode premiere. The following episodes will be released every Thursday on a weekly basis.
Season 2 consists of 10 episodes. Accounts for Max start from $9.99 per month for ad-free viewing, and $15.99 per month for ad-free streaming.
Tokyo Vice season 2 plot
The first season introduced Jake to the Tokyo crime scene, dominated by the brutal Yakuza. In the process, the young reporter met the dirty cop Miyamoto, the internally conflicted Sato, the clever hostess Samantha and most importantly, the experienced detective Hiroto Katagiri.
The policeman took the young reporter under his wing, allowing Jake to learn about the complicated world of Japanese gangs and their connections to law enforcement, night clubs and even ordinary citizens.

Here’s the official description of the second season: Loosely inspired by American journalist Jake Adelstein’s first-hand account of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police beat, season two of the series, filmed on location in Tokyo, takes us deeper into the city’s criminal underworld as Adelstein (Ansel Elgort) comes to realize that his life, and the lives of those close to him, are in terrible danger.

How to watch Tokyo Vice in the UK
In the US, Tokyo Vice is available on Max. However, UK-based fans have to look for in other places.
The easiest way to watch the show is to stream it via Lionsgate+, a service owned by the American entertainment company Lionsgate.
You can access the platform in three ways.
- You can sign up on the Lionsgate+ website . The subscription costs £5.99 per month, with a seven-day free trial.
- You can add Lionsgate+ to Amazon Prime Video Channels for £1.99 per month for six months.
