Vodafone has announced a big upgrade to its standard broadband package featuring a new Power Hub router and Super WiFi 6 Booster. This will help it compete with the likes of Sky and EE, but there’s a catch.

These new devices will help customers get better Wi-Fi signal around the home and support more devices, leading to faster speeds and a smoother experience. However, as is often the case with this type of innovation, you must be a new customer to get your hands on them.

Vodafone confirmed to Tech Advisor that the gadgets are available to new customers only but “is looking to offer to existing customers in the future.”

If you are a new customer thinking about signing up, here are the benefits you can get from the new broadband gadgets.

The Power Hub is a Wi-Fi 6 router that’s designed for full fibre broadband and can offer speeds of up to 910Mbps. It can theoretically connect up to 100 devices and features ‘intelligent WiFi auto-optimisation’ to give you the best speeds.

Add in the Super WiFi 6 Booster and you’ve upgraded your home to mesh Wi-Fi for “wall-to-wall WiFi”. It would make for a sensible addition for larger homes where signal doesn’t reach the entire floorplan with just a router.

Though Vodafone says it’s all “designed to work with the latest tech” it’s worth noting that devices are on the market with newer Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 standards, though Wi-Fi 6 should be fast enough for the average consumer.

You can opt for a Pro II package from £36 per month with a Wi-Fi 6E Ultra Hub, support for up to 150 devices and a 4G broadband backup if you prefer.

It’s not just devices, either. Vodafone is also offering customers on the new plans dedicated ‘WiFi Xpert’ support who will “help monitor and fix any issues”.

“And in the unlikely event they don’t get reliable WiFi coverage across every corner of the home, Vodafone’s Whole Home WiFi Guarantee lets them leave, for free,” the firm said.

The new standard broadband package from Vodafone comes in at a reasonable £26 per month and comes with the Power Hub. There’s an additional fee of £7 per month if you want the Super WiFi 6 Booster.

The contract is 24 months in length and includes unlimited usage.

Vodafone uses the same Openreach network as BT, EE and Sky and its ‘The Great British Telecoms Switch’ campaign suggests customers can save more than £200 for the same full fibre broadband.

The network also offers perks like combining your broadband and mobile contracts to save money and get discounts and offers via the VeryMe Rewards scheme.
