Google’s about to launch Android 16 fully, and it’s getting its own ‘I/O Edition’ live stream.

Although the full Google I/O 2025 developer conference is taking place as usual, it seems the firm wants to unveil the next version of Android in advance, perhaps to free up more of the keynote to talk about Gemini AI.

This will take place a week ahead in the form of The Android Show: I/O Edition.

Android 16 just dopped and honestly… I’m dissapointed

How to watch the Android 16 launch live stream

This event is scheduled for 13 May at 10am PST – that’s 1pm EST and 6pm BST (UK time).

It will be broadcast live on the official Android YouTube channel, but we’ve embedded the live stream below for your convenience.

What will Google announce at The Android Show I/O Edition?

Little is known about the event as Google has only said it will be a chance to “hang out with Sameer Samat, President of Android Ecosystem, and the Android team to be the first to learn about innovative new experiences.”

It certainly seems like an Android 16 launch where we’ll learn about new features as well as the new Material 3 Expressive user interface design , which has been leaked.

The new OS will be coming to Pixel phones and tablets as well as third-party Android devices.

There may also be news on other forms of Android like Wear OS 6 as well as Gemini, but we’ll all have to tune in to find out.

For now, you can watch the 30-second trailer above and find out how to watch the main Google I/O keynote live stream .

What won’t Google announce?

There’s always the possibility of a teaser, considering Google has done it in the past for the likes of the Pixel 7 and Pixel Tablet in 2022.

However, don’t hold your breath for any new hardware such as the upcoming Pixel 10 , Pixel Watch 4 and Pixel Tablet 2 .

Google is unlikely to even mention these devices by name, even though we know they will run on the software being talked about.

There’s more chance, we think, of some kind of hardware involvement at the main Google I/O conference on 20-21 May but again, don’t bet any money on it.
