Everything indicates that the third season of Wednesday will be even more eventful than season 2. The plot will revolve around Morticia’s mysterious sister, Ophelia Frump, whose appearance was teased in the second-season finale. After weeks of speculation, Netflix has finally revealed who will play the role — and no, it won’t be Lady Gaga, as some had initially thought.

The iconic spin-off of The Addams Family was one of the biggest shows on Netflix when it debuted, triumphantly joining the likes of Stranger Things and Squid Game . However, the second season seemed to be slightly less successful than the first. Although interest in the series remains high, viewership for season 2 part 2 fell by 43.6% compared to part 2 . This doesn’t necessarily mean that Wednesday is losing fans – some viewers may be waiting to binge-watch the entire season.

Here’s everything we know about the third instalment.

When could Wednesday season 3 be released?

Netflix renewed the series for a third season ahead of the season two premiere. For now, we don’t know when it will premiere – more information will emerge in the coming months.

Season 1 premiered in November 2022, while season 2 arrived nearly three years later, in August 2025. According to rumours, the second season of Wednesday was supposed to arrive in 2024. However, production was halted after the beginning of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike in 2023.

Therefore, fans won’t have to wait so long for season 3 – we estimate that it may premiere in 2027.

What is the plot of Wednesday season 3?

Spoilers for season 2 below.

For now, the creators haven’t unveiled a plot summary for season 3. However, we’ve put together a list of key plot lines that we expect to be explored.

The Ophelia Frump mystery

In the second season, we learned that Morticia’s sister, Ophelia, was a powerful medium whose gift of clairvoyance drove her mad. Like Wednesday, black tears flowed from her eyes during her visions.

In the season finale, Morticia gave her daughter Ophelia’s diary, hoping that it would help her regain her lost psychic powers. While reading it, Wednesday experienced a sudden vision – she saw Ophelia locked in a cell in the basement of Grandmama Hester’s palace. On the wall of her dungeon was written in a blood-like substance: “Wednesday must die.”

We’re sure that the mystery surrounding Ophelia will be the main storyline in season 3.

The return of the avian killer

In season 2, one of the major plots involved bizarre crow attacks, led by an outcast with the power to manipulate birds. In episode 4, it turned out that the source of the problems was Judi Stonehurst, Dr. Faiburn’s assistant and daughter of Augustus Stonehurst, a teacher at Nevermore and director of Willow Hill Hospital.

Judi was killed by Isaac the zombie as revenge for conducting experiments on his sister, Francoise. That seemed to be the end of the avian storyline. However, in the season 2 finale, the red-eyed crow, which was flying at the head of the birds led by Judi, reappeared. So, perhaps not.

Enid as alpha werewolf

As it turns out in season 2, Wednesday’s roommate is an alpha – a supreme, dangerous being who, during a full-moon transformation, can be trapped in the body of a wolf. Unfortunately, that’s precisely what happened to Enid. While digging up Wednesday, who’d been buried alive, the girl turned into a werewolf and ran away into the forest.

In the season finale, Wednesday and her uncle Fester decided to follow Enid’s trail to help her return to human form and bring her home. It may mean that at least part of season 3 will take place outside the walls of Nevermore Academy – perhaps we’ll see Wednesday and Fester’s journey to track down Enid.

Isadora and Tyler’s alliance

In the second season, Tyler managed to escape from the psychiatric hospital and even find his mother, Francoise. However, she died in the finale after falling from the roof of Nevermore Academy. While visiting his parents’ grave, Tyler was approached by Isadora Capri, a werewolf and music teacher at Nevermore.

Wednesday Season 2 - Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin, Frances O’Connor as Françoise Galpin - 4

Netflix

The woman asked Tyler to join her Hyde pack, where he would find support and wouldn’t need a master.

Ultimately, traumatised and lonely, Tyler agreed to Isadora’s proposal. But are her intentions pure? If so, will her idea of creating a haven for Hydes succeed? And has Tyler really given up on his plan to take revenge on Wednesday and Enid? These will likely be important themes in the third season.

Who is starring in Wednesday season 3?

The biggest announcement for season 3 is that Eva Green will be starring as Ophelia Frump , Morticia’s mysterious sister and Wednesday’s aunt.

The French actress rose to fame thanks to her role as Isabelle in Bernardo Bertolucci’s cult film The Dreamers. In later years, she appeared in movies such as Kingdom of Heaven, Casino Royale, 300: Rise of an Empire and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

She is also no stranger to dark fantasy and the gothic genre. In Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows, she played the witch Angelique, and in the series Penny Dreadful, she stars as Vanessa Ives, the powerful medium.

In the third season, Jenna Ortega will return as Wednesday Addams. We also can’t imagine season 3 without Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams and Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester.

We’re also convinced that Joanna Lumley will return as Grandmama Hester Frump, the cold-hearted mortuary mogul.

The Addams family will be accompanied by their friends and employees once again. Victor Dorobantu is likely to return as Thing, Joonas Suotamo may reprise his role as Lurch, and Liv Spencer may appear as Varicose, Hester Frump’s butler.

We expect that the following cast members will also reprise their roles in Wednesday season 3:

  • Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair
  • Evie Templeton as Agnes DeMille
  • Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay
  • Georgie Farmer as Ajax Petropolus
  • Moosa Mostafa as Eugene
  • Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin
  • Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo as Deputy Ritchie Santiago

In season 2 of Wednesday, we also saw the unexpected return of Gwendoline Christie’s Larissa Weems , the headmistress of Nevermore Academy, who was murdered in season 1. Larissa reappeared as a ghost and Wednesday’s spiritual guide – therefore, it’s very likely that she will also appear in season 3.

Billie Piper joined the cast of season 2 as Isadora Capri, a music teacher at Nevermore Academy and head of a Hyde pack.

One of the biggest stars of season 2 was Lady Gaga . She played Rosaline Rotwood, a psychic and Nevermore teacher who specialised in runes and ancient cryptology.

However, her appearance was brief – but fans would certainly be delighted if Gaga returned.

Season 2 also featured Steve Buscemi who played the new headmaster of the Nevermore Academy, Barry Dort. However, the character was killed off after it was revealed that he was plotting to take over Hester Frump’s estate.

Jamie McShane’s Donovan Galpin, ex-sheriff and Tyler’s father, was also killed. As was Dr Fairburn, played by Thandiwe Newton, and Christina Ricci’s Marilyn Thornhill. Unfortunately, Professor Orloff, portrayed by Christopher Lloyd, also died.

However, some of these characters may return in flashbacks or, given the supernatural nature of the series, as ghosts.

In season 3, we won’t see Percy Hynes White as Xavier Thorpe. The actor left the show after allegations of sexual assault were made against him on social media in 2023.
