After the box office success of Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile, it was only a matter of time before there was another film based on Agatha Christie’s work. A Haunting in Venice hit cinemas on 15 September, providing audiences with horror entertainment just in time for the spooky season.
Inspired by the All Hallows’ Eve novel, the film hits the gothic notes much more strongly than the book. Kenneth Branagh, who directed and starred in the movie, sets the action in a ruined Italian palazzo. A séance held in the building gets out of hand, and the old mansion shows signs of being haunted. Retired detective Hercule Poirot tries to solve the mystery of a young girl’s death while unravelling the secrets of the paranormal activities.
