• The show’s third season premiered at the beginning of September
  • The trailer shows Daryl and Carol travelling through post-apocalyptic Europe
  • AMC has renewed the series for season 4

The fan-favourite spin-off of The Walking Dead is back. The first official trailer was presented at this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego, giving people a glimpse of what’s next for Daryl and Carol in post-apocalyptic Europe.

From the beginning, the network had high hopes for Daryl’s spin-off – as it turned out, rightly so. The series has been well received, with a change of setting and the introduction of new characters bringing a breath of fresh air to the universe.

It seems that in the third season, the series has returned to its original title (which is probably for the best).

The third instalment of Daryl Dixon series is rolling out episodes on AMC and AMC+ . Season 3 consists of 7 episodes that will be airing weekly.

We expect that in the UK, season 3 will debut shortly after its US premiere, as was the case with season 2.

AMC renewed the series for the third season in July 2024. Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride announced the start of shooting in a video posted on social media:

An AMC statement reads:

Season three follows Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier as they continue their journey to somehow return home and to the ones they love. As they struggle to find their way back, the path takes them farther astray, leading them through distant lands with ever-changing and unfamiliar conditions as they witness the various effects of the Walker apocalypse.

In the US, the series debuted on AMC and AMC+ on 7 September 2025. Here’s the timetable for all the episodes in the season:

  • Episode 1: 7 September 2025, 6pm PT / 9pm ET
  • Episode 2: 14 September 2025, 6pm PT / 9pm ET
  • Episode 3: 21 September 2025, 6pm PT / 9pm ET
  • Episode 4: 28 September 2025, 6pm PT / 9pm ET
  • Episode 5: 5 October 2025, 6pm PT / 9pm ET
  • Episode 6: 12 October 2025, 6pm PT / 9pm ET
  • Episode 7: 19 October 2025, 6pm PT / 9pm ET

The season will see the return of Norman Reedus as the fearless warrior and zombie slayer Daryl Dixon. It is also confirmed that he will once again team up with Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier – in season 1, viewers saw the actress’ cameo announcing her comeback, and she appeared as a key character in season 2.

In season 3, Daryl and Carol will meet new allies and foes. One of them will be the character played by Stephen Merchant , who you may know from his role as Caliban in Logan (2017) or Greg in The Outlaws (2021-2024). He was also the co-writer and director of The Office (UK).

New additions to the cast include:

  • Eduardo Noriega (The Devil’s Backbone)
  • Alexandra Masangkay (The Platform)
  • Candela Saitta (Último Primer Día)
  • Hugo Arbués (A través de mi ventana)
  • Óscar Jaenada (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides)

In the upcoming season, Daryl and Carol will enter Spain, as part of an attempt to return to the US.

As the series’ showrunner, David Zabel, told The Hollywood Reporter :

It’s one of the things that distinguishes us from the other ‘Walking Dead’ shows – that we get to show how different parts of the world have responded to the walker apocalypse and the different impact it has had in different places and come up with some cool, new things that you don’t see in the American versions.

Zabel also added:

We loved the reinvigoration we experienced going to France, and we wanted to continue doing that. On a story level, the characters should not settle down. It should be a road show. They have to keep moving [to return home]. At the end of season two, they’re going somewhere. We don’t know exactly where, and it’s not a direct line to the next place they go. But the idea is to keep the characters struggling and striving to get home and moving.

Knowing the universe of The Walking Dead, during their journey, Daryl and Carol will likely encounter a variety of post-apocalyptic communities on their way – ordinary people as well as psychopaths, local warlords, cultists and other dark characters.

The latest trailer for the series shows Daryl and Carol reaching the United Kingdom and, then, Spain:

Here’s the first teaser for the third season:

A few months ago, AMC also published a sneak peek of season 3:

Yes! At Comic-Con 2025 in San Diego, showrunner David Zabel announced that the series will return for season 4 on AMC and AMC+. Production will kick off in July 2025 in Spain – the filming will take place in Bilbao, Galicia, Andalucía, the Segovia region and Toledo.

It will, however, be the last instalment of Daryl’s adventures – but fans shouldn’t worry. The end of this spin-off doesn’t mean that Daryl will never appear on-screen again. As Zabel put it:

After much conversation, three weeks ago, we started rolling on Season 4. It will be a super-sized season. We will make eight episodes, which is very cool … and it will really allow us to complete the story of Daryl and Carol in Spain, and it will be very emotional and powerful. It will also complete this part of the characters’ journey, the European adventure, and so, it’s the last season of this iteration of the show. And then, what lies beyond that for these characters, we will see. I’m sure there’s plenty, and we’re always talking about it, but it’ll be the fourth and final season.

For now, there’s no information on when Daryl Dixon season 4 may premiere. However, considering that season 1 premiered in September 2023, season 2 in September 2024, and season 3 will arrive in September 2025, we expect the final instalment to be released in September 2026.
