There are plenty of PS5 fans – this writer included – that suspect Sony is working on multiple colour options for the next-gen console. We’re yet to see any other colour option for the PS5 itself, but Sony has taken the first steps with the new Midnight Black and Cosmic Red editions of the DualSense controller.
Revealed on the PlayStation blog , the new controllers are said to be inspired by outer space, with the Cosmic Red controller reflecting the shades of red found “throughout the cosmos” while the Midnight Black finish reflects “how we view space through the night sky”. Yeah, we’re a little unsure too…
Whatever the inspiration, the new Midnight Black and Cosmic Red PS5 DualSense controllers are set to be released in June, and we list everywhere currently offering pre-orders in the UK and US right here.
When will the red and black PS5 controllers be released?
Sony has confirmed that both the Midnight Black and Cosmic Red editions of the PS5 DualSense controller will be released in June, but it’s a staggered release with the US getting first dibs.
The new variations of the DualSense controller are set to be released in the US on 11 June 2021 , while those in the UK must wait until 18 June 2021 to pick theirs up.
Where can I pre-order the red and black PS5 controllers in the US?
Despite not being released until June, Sony – and third-party retailers – have begun to offer pre-orders for the new Midnight Black and Cosmic Red DualSense controllers, and rather unsurprisingly, it has already begun to sell out.
If you’re in the US, you can head directly to Sony’s PS Direct online storefront and pre-order the Midnight Black edition for $69.99 while the Cosmic Red edition costs a little extra at $74.99. Both editions are currently in stock, with shipping expected to coincide with the release.
Where can I pre-order the red and black PS5 controllers in the UK?
Like in the US, there are a handful of retailers offering pre-orders of the new DualSense controllers in the UK.
GAME currently has pre-order stock of the Midnight Black DualSense controller , and it’ll set you back £59.99, while the Cosmic Red DualSense controller has a slightly higher premium at £64.99.
Box is also offering the Midnight Black and Cosmic Red controllers for the same price.
