BT Sport has now changed its name, with the platform rebranding to TNT Sports.
It’s all part of the ongoing wider merger between Warner Bros. and Discovery and has also affected Max in the US .
When did BT Sport rebrand to TNT Sports?
BT Sport rebranded to TNT Sports on 18 July 2023 .
There are four TNT Sports channels in total (as well as the HD versions of each one), which replace the BT Sport channels. As for the Eurosport channels , Warner Bros. Discovering provided the following statement in a press release:
“TNT Sports will present the live sports rights carried by BT Sport today, while Eurosport in the U.K & Ireland will continue to be available in the same way as it is today before being rolled into the new brand at some time in the future.”
For streaming, all content is available via Discovery+ and its app .
Why did BT Sport rebrand to TNT Sports?
Discovery also owns the premium streaming platform Eurosport, and the idea is that eventually both this service and BT Sport will be available under one single offering – TNT Sports.
This means the platform will have the rights to the Olympics, the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, Premiership Rugby, MotoGP, UFC, Boxing, WWE, tennis Grand Slams, cycling Grand Tours and winter sports.
TNT Sports is already an established brand in Latin America, so Warner is unifying its titles under one name across the globe.
Eurosport retired its dedicated streaming player in January, moving its content to Discovery+.
When will Eurosport rebrand to TNT Sports?
The Eurosport channels are also expected to rebrand to TNT Sports, but not until after the Paris 2024 Olympics, as these channels have official rights to coverage.
Will the price of BT Sport change with the rebranding?
If you’re currently in a TV contract, then BT has confirmed on its landing page that there are no plans to alter pricing when the name change takes place. Of course, it has neither confirmed nor denied whether this will happen further down the line.
On the flexible subscription front, the price of TNT Sports on a monthly rolling contract is £29.99 per month , the same price as BT Sports was. If you want to gain access on your smartphone, you must to do via the Discovery+ app, rather than the dedicated BT Sport app.
BT customers should already have access to the Discovery+ Entertainment & Sports membership at no extra cost, and you can find out more on the Discovery+ website . The same is true for anyone that gets BT Sport through Sky.
If you have both a Discovery+ streaming membership and access to BT Sport, you can cancel your Discovery+ membership (this will end after your last billing date) and simply watch via your BT credentials.
Your billing details should be under the name TNT Sports rather than BT Sport.
I’m a Virgin TV/Sky customer. What do I need to know?
BT told us that Virgin Media includes (and will continue to include) Eurosport and TNT Sports linear channels in its TV packages.
If you’re a Sky TV customer, then the Discovery+ website says that the Premium plan with TNT Sports via the Discovery+ app for Sky Glass, Sky Stream and Sky Q should be “coming soon”, but does not offer a concrete date.
If you don’t have a BT Sport subscription and just watch your sport via Discovery+ with Eurosport, then you don’t need to do anything . However, if you want more sports content, then you can upgrade to the Premium package (which includes TNT Sports) for £29.99 per month.
Discovery will communicate any price changes with customers should they arise. The current plans for Discovery+ are as follows :
- Basic (previously called Entertainment) – £4.99 per month
- Premium (previously called Entertainment and Sport) – £6.99 per month
- Premium with TNT Sport (new from Discovery+) – £29.99 per month
The new Warner Bros. Discovery venture means that sadly BT Sport is not available through Plusnet anymore. BT confirmed that the service was withdrawn on 5 July 2023.
If you’ve paid for a BT Sport subscription beyond this date, then BT should automatically provide a refund to your bill.
