What could the plot of Fallout season 2 be about?

Spoilers for season 1 below.

The world of Fallout is filled with extraordinary inventions, bizarre mutants, crazy individuals, wacky robots and warring factions.

The first season showed only a slice of this universe. In the second season, the creators will have a chance to present a larger cut of the post-apocalyptic world, where retro aesthetics mix with futuristic technology.

The logline for season 2 states:

The new season will pick up in the aftermath of Season One’s epic finale and take audiences along for a journey through the wasteland of the Mojave to the post-apocalyptic city of New Vegas.

Here’s a list of key plot lines we think will appear in Fallout season 2:

Fallout- Brotherhood of Steel - 1

Lucy, Ghoul and Dog’s journey together

In the season 1 finale, Lucy decides to join forces with the loathed Ghoul to chase after Hank. Lucy’s father is presumably headed to where the Vault-Tec main bosses are hidden. Tracking him, the Ghoul hopes to find his wife and daughter, who were supposed to have ended up in one of the corporation’s top Vaults.

The fight for Cold Fusion

Moldaver managed to recover the cold fusion technology, but her hideout was soon taken by the Brotherhood of Steel. The soldiers have thus presumably seized the invention. However, in season 2, they are likely to fight over cold fusion with other factions, including the Enclave, from which Dr. Siggi Wilzig escaped.

The Ghoul’s Backstory

The first season showed a fragment of events 200 years ago. However, it’s still unclear how Cooper separated from his wife and what happened to his family right after the atomic blast. In season 2, the writers need to fill these gaps.

Fallout - The Ghoul - 2

Maximus and the Brotherhood of Steel

Despite all the morally questionable decisions Maximus made, he was offered not only to return to the Brotherhood but also to participate in its reconstruction. Perhaps in season 2, Maximus will have to decide whether he wants to devote himself to the Brotherhood and help it take over the Wasteland, or instead to help Lucy.

Norm and Vault 31

One of the most exciting elements of the season was Lucy’s brother trying to untangle the web of conspiracies surrounding Vaults 31, 32, and 33. Unfortunately, curiosity killed the cat. Although Norm got answers to his questions, he was trapped in Vault 31. Surely, someone will have to help him get out. Perhaps it will be Chet who may escape Vault 32, supervised by the extremely creepy Steph.

Thaddeus as a ghoul

The wounded squire’s decision to trust a random “doctor” turned out to be highly reckless. However, Thaddeus’ transformation was one of the funnier scenes of the finale. We hope that the unlucky soldier will appear in season 2 and not as a zombie-like, feral ghoul.

Vaults mysteries

According to a conversation overheard 200 years earlier by Cooper, the creators of the crypts had many weird ideas for managing their inhabitants. Residents being forced to fight for resources, controlled by a milk-distributing robot and being turned into Super-Mutants are just some of them. We hope that in season 2 we will visit more shelters and discover new puzzles lurking in them.

Which cast members will appear in Fallout season 2?

We expect the following actors to reprise their roles for Fallout season 2:

  • Ella Purnell – Lucy MacLean, an optimistic Vault Dweller with an all-American can-do spirit
  • Walton Goggins – The Ghoul, who survives the Wasteland as a bounty hunter
  • Aaron Moten – Maximus, a young soldier of the Brotherhood of Steel
  • Kyle MacLachlan – Hank MacLean, the Overseer of Vault 33 and Lucy’s father
  • Moisés Arias – Norm MacLean, Lucy’s brother
  • Leslie Uggams – Betty Pearson, the Overseer of Vault 33
  • Zach Cherry – Woody Thomas, a member of Vault 33’s governing council
  • Rodrigo Luzzi – Reg McPhee, a member of Vault 33’s governing council
  • Annabel O’Hagan – Steph Harper, the Overseer of Vault 32
  • Dave Register – Chet, Lucy’s cousin
  • Johnny Pemberton – Thaddeus, a member of the Brotherhood of Steel
  • Xelia Mendes-Jones – Dane, a member of the Brotherhood of Steel and Maximus’s closest friend
  • Frances Turner – Barb Howard, Cooper’s wife

In the second season, we will also see Justin Theroux as Robert House , the ruler of New Vegas. In flashbacks from season 1 we saw him scheming with other corporate leaders to cause nuclear annihilation. The game Fallout: New Vegas explained that he survived the apocalypse by hibernating and was awakened 100 years later to govern the post-war New Vegas city.

Macaulay Culkin is also set to appear in the second season of the series, but who he’ll play remains a mystery for now. However, fans speculate that the actor may portray the leader of Caesar’s Legion. In the Fallout games, this was a totalitarian dictatorship modelled on the Roman Empire, and established by Edward “Caesar” Sallow and Joshua Graham. According to fans, Culkin may play one of those two leaders.

There were also rumours that Aaron Paul was interested in appearing in Fallout, but it’s unknown yet if season 2 will indeed feature him.

The new season will be unlikely to feature Sarita Choudhury as Lee Moldaver, although there may be flashbacks featuring her.

Who makes the Fallout series?

In addition to Nolan, Joy, and Athena Wickham from Kilter Films, the executive producer for the show is Todd Howard, who directed several games in the Fallout franchise. The executive team is supported by James Altman from Bethesda Softworks.

The showrunners for the series are Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner, who also work as writers and executive producers on the project.
